I just learned something very important on Fox 5 news.
The tolls on the Garden State Parkway are so absurd that from now on, they will get only a penny and a honk from me.

I'm not going to get a ticket, so there's no point in me searching for scattered change in my Jeep.

2. Apparently, the machines are so broken from random shit getting thrown
in there, that they don't really mail out tickets, even with the video surveillance. The signs say that if it doesn't register after you pay, honk, wait 10 seconds and go. The NJDOT workers have admitted that the honking actually doesn't do anything, it's just a rule that you honk, if your money doesn't register, but that they still don't know if you really paid or not.

3. Why the fuck would they tell people that?!
Are they trying to make the NJDOT buy them new equipment? That's the only way they're going to do it, if they start losing money...which they will. That's kinda brilliant, actually, now that I think about it.

5. Well, apparently they're supposed to replace the machines anyway.
Which I find weird, because allegedly they're doing away with the tolls on the parkway.

6. I'm from NJ. We're not known for doing well with the honor system.
I come from a county so corrupt (Hudson) that my birth certificate is considered a fraudulent document by the US government.

7. That's no excuse.
I grew up in Queens, under the el and ten blocks from the Hunt & Fish club. You don't see me stealing electronics from the cargo planes at JFK.

8. Looks like Repuke Stepdad got ripped off with the EZPass
although he also uses it on the NYC side, where you're actually supposed to pay the tolls :P

9. Both of my repuke parents have gotten ripped off with the EZpass.
Neither of them drive in NYC often though...and in the case of my mother, that's a very good thing. She's a menace to herself & others.

13. NJ is one of the bluest states in the country
Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 10:27 PM by Katina
the people "get it" Unfortunately, the majority of the state politicians are f*cking crooks....and democratic ones at that.
But then, you are still dealing with the "big dig" that is still not done...and is now falling down killing people. Political corruption is not a one party disease.

12. Interesting.
Poor as Maine is I'm sure the toll machines are well maintained. They probably do better there than from state income tax. :(
