A cultural difference I noticed that means nothing at all
British TV shows always start with the opening titles, but American shows always give you a minute or so of the show (setting the scene) before the opening titles. With the exception of cartoons, which go straight in with the opening titles.

Also, American TV shows give the most important credits at the start of the show, whereas British shows always give all the credits at the end.

Okay, carry on. :)

2. I kind of miss that blurred, jittery look that British TV shows had in the
1970s when shown on American TV. The transfer from British PAL format to American NTSC format was pretty crude, and you could instantly tell when you were watching a British-made show such as "The 6 Wives of Henry VIII" because of the slightly jittery look, due to PAL's 25 frames per second vs. NTSC's 29.97 frames per second. Okay, carry on.

4. It works the other way too

NTSC to PAL conversions always seem to result in loss of quality. US shows always have a soft-focus look (on our networks) compared to homegrown stuff.

9. But now it seems shows come through clearly without that look - do they
just have a better conversion process now?

8. We used to get bootleg copies of Dr Who from a friend in England
he would set a VHS camera about 2 feet from the TV to record it. We called it "flickervision". But it was the only way for us American Who fanatics to get the new seasons in any kind of timely manner.

6. I've noticed
That I enjoy British shows much more than American shows. Not sure why.

I'm thinking it's the accents.

They make me drool.

11. For most shows.
The new "Doctor Who" has the lead actors and production teams' names at the start. They're also 42~43 minutes in length, perfect for American TV. (What happened to 45 and 50 minute programmes? :D )

15. American TV shows used to start with the credits
Lots of them did in the 70's.

Must have been all the drugs, man.
