Black Bear Mauls Pit Bull
Something strangely ironic about this story:

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06262/723112-100.stm

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- A man let his family's dog outside to play, where it was attacked by a black bear.

Jay Thompson said the 2-year-old pit bull, Aleah, had a shattered left femur and a dislocated hip from the recent attack. The dog was being treated at Ebensburg Animal Hospital.

Mr. Thompson said he knew something was wrong when he let the dog out and she ran across the street, barking and growling. He said he has seen the bear in his neighborhood before and is grateful that no children were outside at the time.

Tina Taylor, with Habitat for Hounds, said the group has pledged $100 toward Aleah's medical bills, which could cost as much as $1,000.

1. This is definitely a weird story.
Most black bears are scared of dogs. I'm not too surprised the bear beat the pit though. Most pit bulls are just big babies with a bad rap. Hell, I fostered one that was scared of my cat. It was pretty justified actually, but it hardly fits in with the "killer" breed profile idiots give them.

2. Not ironic, just stupid.
"...when he let the dog out and she ran across the street..."

Hey, shitferbrains, howsabout not letting your dog run loose. Put her on a leash and walk her, or keep her in your friggin' yard.

Hi, I'm Jay Thompson, but you can call me Johnny Toofuckingstupidforwords. I'm grateful that no children were out when I let my dog loose in the neighborhood. That makes me pretty damn cool, huh?

Dipshit.

Philadelphia to Boston. Big state, that makes PA.

Where is southeastern PA were you? My background: the city, Norristown, Conshohocken, Skippack, Plymouth Meeting.

Any of those sound familiar to you?

37. the dog owner is to blame for this confrontation
Mr. Thompson said he knew something was wrong when he let the dog out and she ran across the street, barking and growling.

On the basis of this, I doubt the bear did the "attacking".

The pit bull was just behaving like a pit bull (proactively attacking a perceived threat), and the bear was just behaving like a bear (defending itself with fang and claw).

The villain of this story is the fool who owns the dog. He lets a pit bull run loose -- endangering wildlife, the public, and the dog herself. This guy either does not understand pit bulls at all, or he's aware of the breed's propensity for serious aggression and simply couldn't care less about other people's safety. The result of this boneheadedness is that a wild animal was harassed, and a pet was seriously injured.

Didn't have to happen.

:dunce:

42. Orange Tabby Trees Black Bear
declawed, no less!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5067912.stm

A black bear got more than it bargained for after straying into a family garden in the US state of New Jersey.
The unwelcome intruder was forced up a tree - twice - by the family pet, a tabby cat called Jack.

The terrified bear was only able to make its escape when owner Donna Dickey called the hissing cat into the house.

So what we have here is sort of like rock, paper, scissors (known out here as jan ken po): Pit bull crushes tabby, lack bear mauls pit bull, and tabby trees black bear.
