1. I enjoyed one of their concerts...
Although, I had to yell... "GET A ROOM!" to the couple in the row in front of me.

3. Meh.
The Edge: "I'm going to play this one note for a looooooong time with shloads of delay. And now, here's its fifth! Oooooh, the tension! Thank god hardly anybody's ever heard of the Comsat Angels or I'd be in deep shit for plagiarism."

Bono: "If I keep elliptically comparing myself to Martin Luther King, Jr., eventually, the Third World will believe me. Suck on that, Sting."

Adam & Larry: "We know we're uninspired and replacable, but the cash is just too sick for us to ever quit this sham."

And so they go, "saving rock" with hoary riffs and weak-ass beats. Fuck 'em in the ear.

I was mostly into them in the early to mid 80s. I still think they're a good band, though.

39. I agree. Unforgettable Fire was their best album, by far.
Joshua Tree was great, too, but I don't think they ever surpassed UF.

14. After I Will Follow, it was all downhill
I saw that tour at a club in New Haven, and while I loved The Edge, all their songs except I Will Follow sounded the same. I've never changed my mind about that. One dimensional, mediocre songwriting, but very good musicianship.

18. I am a huge U2 fan, but I can understand why people don't like them.
I absolutely love "The Joshua Tree" -- it is one of my favorite albums, ever. I also really like "Achtung Baby" and "Unforgettable Fire"...the song "Bad" is amazing to me.

I saw them in 1987 in Philadelphia and to this day, it is one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen.

19. Other: Great airplane.

The US Air Force U-2 high altitude reconnaissance aircraft first flew in 1955 and was developed by Lockheed Martin at the famous Skunk Works site. The aircraft provides continuous surveillance day and night and in all weathers. The aircraft can gather surveillance and signals intelligence data in real time and can be deployed anywhere in the world.

The U-2, which is known as the Dragon Lady, can loiter at 70,000ft (21,336m) over the area of operations for several hours and is often described as a glider due to its flight characteristics. The design has remained essentially unchanged over decades of operational deployment but the reconnaissance systems are constantly upgraded with state-of-the-art and classified systems.

The last U-2 was delivered in 1989 and there are 32 U-2S aircraft in the US Air Force fleet. The U-2 was used in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield during the Gulf Crisis during 1990 and 1991, over Bosnia and Kosovo in support of NATO forces during the 1990s, in Afghanistan in 2001 and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.

22. I like the Edge
He can't play, but he does the not playing well. He know his limitations. (Dirty Harry)

Bono scares me "What's the difference between Bono and God? - God doesn't think he's Bono"

My mother always told me to watch out for SMALL guys, like the 4 ft Bono and the midget Cruise, never nind Napolean and Hitler.

I like small girls though ;)

even with crap records like Up and Around The Sun.

But maybe I'm a bit biased because i'm a southern gal and the R.E.M. guys are just southern boys...and they just got inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame :woohoo: go them! :D

40. R.E.M. used to be good. Used to be my favorite band.
Then, somewhere around the "Automatic for the People" era, they took a swift dive off the Cliff of Suckiness.

I cannot even stand their pretentious nonsense now.

I liked Stipe much better when I couldn't make out a word he was singing. I still listen to "Murmur" and "Fables" a great deal. But their post-1992 stuff? Nah.

He's too "celeberty" for my taste. But the other two guys, Mike and Peter are just normal guys with familes who just love music and all. They're my 2 favorites. And of course Bill is just living it up on his hay farm... :D

him and Mike are the most laid back of the bunch. Michael is just so...celeberty now and imho, the young Michael Stipe would be really sad to see where the old Michael Stipe is now...

Peter's just cool. Period. I really wanna meet him. Badlyyy

37. About fifteen seconds of any given song are great.
If you cut those out and strung them together, you'd have the best song ever.

I also give them points for having more decent songs per album than pretty much any other band.

I haven't listened to any albums since Zooropa though...

38. I'll say they were good up to "Achtung Baby"
Starting with "Zooropa", all their songs started to sound the same, and Bono's already large ego has since become downright massive.

My favorites by them? The live version of "Bad" from the Wide Awake in America EP, and "Angel of Harlem" from the much lambasted Rattle and Hum album. "Pride (In the Name of Love)" used to be my favorite, but radio eventually burned that one out for me (still a good song, though).

One of my favorites, in fact. I didn't care much for How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, but other than that I don't think they've put out a subpar album.

IMHO the best band of my lifetime (I was born the day after War was released).
