Interesting- Google Earth is using several year old data
I found the house I've been living in since 2000, only to discover my red Ford Ranger still parked out front, even though I sold it a year ago. Also, the round pool in the back yard is missing, even though it's been there for the past three years.

I was under the impression Google used fresher map information than that.

1. The photo of my old residence is several years old as well
Somewhere between three and five years old, judging by which cars are where. The photo of my current place is also about that old.

2. I dunno about Google Earth
but at least one satellite photo at Google Maps is about 10 years old. I was looking around my hometown awhile back, and the photo shows the sports complex that opened in 1997 under construction.

All the satellite images available were captured between 2000-2002 (at least for my area those are the dates). It is at significant cost that satellites are tasked for imaging, and its only done very infrequently.

4. They can only use the images that are AVAILABLE.
Although they may wish to give the impression that
this stuff is surveillance-satellite footage, the truth
is that most of it is actually USGS aerial photography.

And those planes don't fly every day- not even every year.
