I watched "Mona Lisa Smile" because of the outstanding cast. I figured they would act circles around Julia Roberts, but they didn't. I skipped a lot of movies because she was in them, but I think I'll give the a look.

1. yeah, Leo Dicaprio...
first movie of his I saw was Titanic, and after that I avoided the rest of his movies like the plague..but then my wife got Whats Eating Gilbert Grape and I was ...astounded. Then I gave Basketball Diaries a shot, and Leo won me back over.

8. With actors, a film peformance so often depends on the director,
and the material doesn't it?

3. Johnny Depp
I couldn't stand him back in the Edward Scissorhands/Winona Forever days. I dismissed him as just another pretty boy long on looks and short on talent.

By the time he did "Blow", I had been slowly gaining respect for his work over the previous several years, and by then considered him one of the very best actors we have. I even look at his earlier work, like "Edward Scissorhands", with a newfound appreciation. I realized that although he did mature as an actor and honed his talent, my perception of him is what went under an even larger transformation.

5. I went through the same thing with Johnny too...
I thought he was going to be another pretty boy poster child, but Fear and Loathing won me over big time, I even thought Sleepy Hollow was decent...and Blow was amazing
