Old-Timey Gamers: Tell me about Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle!
Having lost my old LucasArts DOS adventure disks a long time ago, I just repurchased:

http://www.amazon.com/LucasArts-Entertainment-80218-Archives-Volume/dp/B00000K50T/sr=8-7/qid=1158521372/ref=pd_bbs_7/102-6685267-0778516?ie=UTF8&s=videogames

(contains Sam 'n' Max Hit the Road, Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle among others)

And I'm running the games with:

Sam 'n' Max is one of my all time favorites. But now I intend to play through MM and DOTT. Is DOTT a sequel to MM? It seems that way because MM seems to have the cruder graphics. Is it necessary to play through MM to understand/enjoy DOTT?

1. Sort of a sequel, I guess...

I've never played it though. Maniac Mansion, on the other hand, is brilliant. One of my favourite games.
