I mean, I KNOW the site is owned by a Bush-supporting fundie, but come ON!

"Karen" and I have nothing in common. I demand another free Compatibility Profile!

1. She wears men-sized shoes
Maybe e-Harmony misunderstood and found you a sole mate, not a soul mate.

4. My understanding is that it's for heteros only.
I'm NOT interested, since I'm happily taken. :-)

But that Bush loving Dr. Whats-his-name who's in the commericials (and who really creeps me out) is missing out on more business for his site. But if you're a right wing Bush suppoter, you don't care about those icky homos, do you?

6. He was a guest on "Hour of Power" with Robert Schuller...
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 02:07 PM by Human Torch
...and the two of them talked in breathless tones about finding the "right" person. I read an article once (and as always, I'm too lazy to Google it, so everybody's gotta trust me that it's true) that said basically:

YES, "Religion and Spirituality" questions ARE scattered throughout his free "profile." YES, when interviewed, a good portion of the members said it played an important role in their decision.

And despite all the fanfare and fluff, it's Match.com with some Christian window dressing. Whether you're asked this up front or not, sooner or later people want to know where you live, what you do for work, and (by implication) your net worth.

ALSO...part of the "success" in these things is simply "believing." Some people convince themselves they've found their "soul mate" because they were too lazy to go out in the world and unapologetically be themselves so that the soul mate would be attracted to them, so with a few clicks of a mouse someone sends them someone and says "here is your soul mate" and they say "OKEE DOKEE."

Don't know if Dr. Warren is a Bush "Ranger" or "Pioneer," but he's a giver.

ON EDIT: I remember where the article was if anyone wants to look for it...Salon (I didn't renew my membership). In the article Warren also...perhaps a bit reluctantly...admitted that eHarmony is "not for everyone" and that the "success stories" represent a small percentage of the people who sign up.

8. Thank you for the information.

Interesting. So, Dr. Warren is doing the "right wing televangalist television show" circuit. Big surprise....

I guess, if you're not a religious sort, it's "caveat emptor" for eharmony.com. Since they're not being upfront about it in their ads (which, incidentally, seem to be, um, monocromatic in potraying the people who have found each other via this web site).

Thanks for the info. :-)

12. that's all "soul mates" are, IMO
two compatible people who both want to find a soul mate at the same time.

For that reason, I think that there is something to the idea of e-harmony. Match.com is for people who want to find a date. e-harmony is for people who want to get married. Of course users are more likely to find someone to marry at the second site.

13. Yeah, I agree...
...but...if what Warren said in the Salon interview was the same as what he said in the ads, maybe people wouldn't be so excited about finding their "soul mate" on eHarmony. He's more enhusiastic and soft-spoken when he's doing an infomercial than he is when an interviewer asks him for facts and figures.

Sign up for a month or two, for a kick, just to have the experience? Sure, why not. Pin all of your hopes on it? You'd think people would know better, but many don't.

Some folks need to take a second look at their wish list. Not everyone lives in a castle and rides a majestic white horse through the mist. I guarantee some people head over to eHarmony looking for the horse.

Let me be more specific: the person RIDING the horse. I'm not talking about any kind of Rick Santorum man-on-horse sex here. Don't want anyone taking my post out of context. That'd be AWFUL.

15. Uggh...
After nagging from my sister-in-law, I signed up. When they matched me with guys who were way shorter than me, I was thinking it wasn't good. When they suggested a fellow who couldn't live without Rush, I closed the account. My comment to my SIL-I can find midgets and crazies all on my own...

What kind of person can't live without Rush? Apparently I flunked the personality test if it suggested a Rush fan as my ideal match.

Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 07:44 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
typical American suburban middle-aged guys. Yuck. They're a dime a dozen in my age group, and they're uniformly boring, stepped in conventional wisdom, unable to talk about anything but professional sports and their job, lacking in intellectual curiosity or a sense of adventure, unwilling to attend arts events except as a special favor (and then you have to "pay" by attending a football game) and think they're good catches because they own a house and car.

21. Well, I hope you introduced her to your sister
Because that ole gals sets my gaydar off the charts! No one more evangelical and right-wing than a repressed closeted lesbian...remember Anita Bryant? So obviously lusting after that va-jay jay.

As for EHarmony: I took the "personality test" because posters on this site were saying that they were rejected for being too eccentric. Boy, was I insulted when it accepted me!!!!!

Their ads don't seem to suggest that they consider crossing the racial divide.
