Salvation Army or E-bay???
Stuff to eliminate from our household. Clothes, sports stuff, furniture that doesn't fit our new home, etc.....should I give it away to the Salvation Army, or neighbors for free, or do I put them on e-bay for the $$$.

1. if you don't need the money, I'd give it to someone who
couldn't afford it, and really needed it. JMHO.

2. Depends. Do you have alot of extra time?
And, do you really need the extra money?

Easiest for selling is a garage sale. Ebay is time intensive, if you do it right (take photos, research your item, etc).

If you can afford to, donate to your choice of thrift store, or offer it for free on craigslist.com.

3. *nodding* no, we don't need the cash, and neighbors have
mentioned interest in the stuff, so, I think I will just give it to them. :)

5. About EBay
There are buyers and there are sellers, very seldom do buyers make sellers contrary to what deadeye would have us believe not everybody can sell.
It sounds like you don't need the cash, so, I'll echo the other posters give away whatever and give the rest to charity.

6. Consider CraigsList
and a certain amount of selective donating for items that couldn't be sold.

7. My advice
My SO and I have a ton of collectible stuff in our house - stuff that we know has a significant monetary value, like bootleg LPs from bands we don't like, etc. That stuff gets put on eBay. But whenever we do a clean-out of the closets, basement, etc., we donate what we don't want to our favorite charity, which happens to be Lifelong Aids Alliance. We recently gave them 14 or so boxes of books, three garbage bags full of clothes, and an old desk. They even came to the house to pick it up. On the other hand, selling things on eBay is kind of a pain - sometimes transactions go smoothly, others not. In the end, I don't think it's worth it to sell general items on eBay unless you really want money for them or they have some obvious value.
