Flogging Molly, baby!!!

I'm seein' them in concert later on tonight. Anyone out there a fan? I think they make the Dropkick Murphys look like freakin' Riverdance.

1. hmmm
for some reason, I just like the Pogues and the Murphys better.

I have a couple FM cds, but they don't seem to get my blood moving the same way.

I've never seen them live though, so it might be different.

8. I know

I want an Irish band that is somewhere between the Pogues and the Murphys - are you saying FM is that band?

oh, and yeah, the band has to have more than one woman.... ;)

10. The Tossers would be a good Pogues/Murphys combo...
FM is more like the Murphs than the Pogues, unless they're doing an acoustic set.

12. yeah, I have one of their CDs, I just haven't listened to it yet
one of my gripes with the local Irish Festival is the dearth of bands of the type we are describing.

Black 47 is kinda cool, though. Much more fun live than on CD, IMO.

16. They're o.k. but for what they do...
The Pogues are better at the traditional Irish stuff, and the Dropkicks are better at the punk infused stuff. Flogging Molly are good, I just prefer the other bands. Plus I remember when their singer used to be in the hair metal band Fastway.

17. Believe me, if I could see the Pogues, I would...
they've been broken up for over a decade now.

P.S. The concert freakin' ruled!

19. It was sweet...
I even bought a T-shirt.

The venue, Revolution, is set up like a large ring, and then you go down half a dozen stairs on the inside of the ring to get to a large dance floor -- and when I say large, I mean probably about 7 or 8 thousand square feet. Anyway, that entire lower area turned into one gigantic mosh pit. I couldn't even get to the stairs to get out, I had to grab onto the railing and hoist myself over, into the outer ring where the bars are. But, I was down there for the first couple songs, just a churning, seething mass of humanity pumping their fists in the air. Good stuff. I'm writing a column on it that's coming out in the paper Wednesday. Maybe I'll post that or somethin'.

"walk away me boys
walk away me boys
and by morning we'll be free
wipe that golden tear
from your mother dear
and raise what's left
of the flag for me"
