So I'm sitting here, fixing these two moisture vaporators on Tatooine
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 12:08 PM by Bornaginhooligan
This has got to be one of the top five most useless and stupid activities I've ever been assigned.

Fix the vaporator.
Learn Bocci.
Run to Tashi Station.
Find those droids.
Cremate some Jawas.
Mourn my relatives.
Save the galaxy.
Repeat every two and a half hours.

This is the kind of activity that breeds scum and villainy.

14. Yeah, remember "Splinter of the Mind's Eye"?
Icky Luke/Leia scenes (in hindsight). If they'd filmed that instead of Empire Strikes Back, the plotline woulda gone in a whole different direction.

15. Wow... somebody else read that one?
How 'bout "Han Solo at Stars End"

The first two books of the expanded universe, IIRC

16. Hmm, dunno. I remember the title, but not sure I read it.
Just read the synopsis in Wikipedia. Doesn't look familiar.

IIRC, Splinter was the first thing out after Star Wars. So alla us geeks were desperate for more SW fiction, so we pounced on it when it arrived in the bookstores.

Rumor at the time was, it was supposed to be the basis for the next movie--until some Fox exec realized "Whoops, we left out Han Solo, our most popular character!" Reality is that Harrison Ford hadn't signed yet, so Alan Dean Foster* came up with a story treatment that omitted Han, in case he didn't sign on.

*The actual writer of the Star Wars novelization that came out just before the first movie, despite having Lucas' name as the author.

17. I'm glad they didn't go with 'Splinter' as the next SW movie
Most likely, the series would have ended there.

As I recall, it was a dreary and depressing novel full of muck and slime.

18. Yeah, Wiki talks about that
Lucas was worried that they would have a low budget, so Foster set it on a fog-covered planet. But once Harrison Ford was signed, the whole concept was scrapped. Plus the first movie was now a huge success, so they had a huge budget for the sequel.
