Wow, I asked phone co. to terminate my serv. after they refused to waive a
25.00 fee I thought was unfair -- they instantly changed their tune and caved. It was amazing. This was after they kept going on about "we can't do that, the computer assigns the fee, blah blah blah).
Just goes to show you how full of shit they really are.

Bottom line -- traditional phone companies are scared shitless of losing customers and will cut whatever deal they have to to keep you.

Just thought I'd share.

1. Inside info --->
All of these companies have what they call "Save Teams". When they're absolutely convinced you're going to unsubscribe, or if you actuall yo, they hand your account over to a member of the "Save Team". They have special negociating chips they can use.

Example: My mom is on high-speed cable internet. The cable company and the landline phone company are in fierce competition right now, because the cable company is now offering phone service, and the phone company is starting their own TV service in November.

The phone company was offering a free computer with a three-year contract for their gigh-speed internet service. My mom decided to drop the cable company and go for the free computer offer. When she told the cable company she was unsubscribing, they first said "oh well, so what?", but a day later she got a call from them saying that they'd buy her the same computer if she remainied a customer!

2. That is exactly what happened! I suddenly heard a click right after
I asked them to cancel service.. And then this nicest guy named Mister Henry came on the phone who basically let me cut whatever deal I wanted. He sounded like Morgan Freeman. He was so sweet, I was sad when the call ended.

3. that's kinda funny.....cause just today...
I called my phone co to explain a charge, and after we got it straightened out, I was surprised when they said we are now offering satellite TV???...and DSL, and wanted to know if I wanted to switch...I said...no thanks, the reason I went to cable was because you couldn't keep the DSL working (he kinda snorted at that, cause he knows it's true)...but what's also interesting, is that my kid and another person I know...signed up for the phone service from the Cable co...and neither of their home phones are working yet....one has been fighting it for a month and an half...and my daughters has been disconnected for a week now...soooooo, until they get the hinkey's worked out...I will keep mine separate...
