3. After all the hype, I wasn't impressed. I finally got to see it 2 weeks
ago, and the story completely failed to move me.

I didn't find the characters particularly compelling nor their lives on screen of any real interest. I know they are supposed to be 'the guys next door' and their little chummy secret and the tragedy of keeping it a secret, etc. But... I didn't find either character terribly ethical or multi-dimensional. They were just like real people.

I think I look for a bit more of the fantastic and the hero in movies. I like to see extraordinary people. If I want more mediocrity, I can go to the supermarket.

It follows that I felt it wouldn't achieve the oscar recognition people thought it was due. Frankly aside from a few pastoral scenes... visually all as interesting as the mid west, truly... it is a bit over-hyped.

I hope ang lee gives us something a bit more rich the next time out.
