Believe it or don't — a *good* mechanic story
I had a couple of busted exhaust hangers (one weld broke yesterday when I was installng new header gaskets), so I went to a muffler shop today to get 'em re-welded. It took the guy about half an hour, whereupon he goes, "Twenty bucks." Right off, I'm getting a break because standard automotive labor is $45-$55 per hour.

I pulled out my debit card and he said, "I need a minimum $30 for that." No biggie; I said, "Well, how about if I buy something to make it $30?" He goes, "Nah, if you need to run to the bank, I trust you." Then I said, "Well, I've got $15 in cash," and he said, "Okay, just gimme that."

I guess it helped that he has two El Caminos of his own.

1. Wow.
I deal with mechanics who are honest and don't overcharge, but I've never been that lucky.

You must be living life right. ;)
