If you were a car
which you're probably not, but if you were.......

What car would you want to be?

(not a human driving a car, but an actual car)

I would maybe be a 1972 Cutlass Supreme. maybe.

6. But who survived?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullit

The hit-men try to follow Bullitt to set him up for an ambush, but he evades them.
The tables are turned on the criminals when he backtracks and comes up behind their car,
surprising them. Phil then slams down the gas pedal and Bullitt gives chase,
a flat-out race between two bellowing muscle cars through city streets.
The chase comes to an end after Mike shoots at Bullitt's car with a 12 gauge shotgun
and Phil loses control of the car. They crash into a gas station and both are
killed in the fiery explosion.

10. Don't get me wrong 69 Mustang FB's are da poop but the Charger

but a dead stock 69 Charger will walk a Mustang
any day off the showroom floor.

FYI the producers went through five Chargers and
nine Mustangs to make Bullet.

Some were crash dummies but Mc Queen blew three
engines during the chase sceens IIRC

12. Another bit of Bullet Trivia .........

At the end of the chase scene a motor cyclist
crashes then Mc Queen wrecks the Mustang trying
to avoid him.

That actually happened. The guy on the motor cycle
was a civilian who rode onto the set in the middle
of the chase and laid his bike down. McQueen went
off the road and tore his suspension out. That's why
the Mustang gets wrecked in the end and McQueen is
seen driving his own Porsche 956 at the end.

Peckinpah got the guy to sign an insurance waiver and
bought him a new motorcycle then put the scene into
the movie.

17. I was...
about 25% into a 68 FB resto when my divorce happened. I was going to make it a Bullitt clone; I'd even already bought the Torque-Flite wheels, signal-hood, the low-km EFI 302 (I had the bright idea to make it reliable and relatively fuel-efficient) and the centre console (mine was a non-GT) :(

18. When I was in University in 1970 my buddies sister went out with
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 02:18 AM by gbrooks
a guy with a 69 FB. It had a 359 Cleveland long
block with a 4 speed top loader and a sway bar
package. It was dead stock otherwise except for
radials which were very expensive in 1970.

He took us for a ride one night and took a corner
on a four lane intersection at 80 MPH after shifting
into second gear.

The tires didn't even chirp

McQueen's Mustangs were 427 big blocks which were
too much engine for that chassis IMO.

I think a tricked out 351 could have beat the Charger
in a 1/8 mile with the power/torque/weight ratio advantage
of the Mustang chassis.

Incidentally McQueen's double clutching technique was sweet!!!!
