Okay, I wrote this Poem for my Creative Writing Class.....
The assignment was to take a picture and write a poem about it....

I can't get my scanner to work, so read the poem and then Below I will describe the pic...

Home Christopher Green

In a neighbor’s cornfield, bundled corn stalks,
That once gave cover to a stolen kiss, now stand,
As sentries guarding against memories
Of Comrades resting eternal in Flanders Field.

Wearing his uniform for the last time, she prays,
She leans toward him, brushes his knee,
Gently, almost, almost grounding him.

Women since Penelope have known,
Aries is hard to evict once warrior claims are made.
She hands him an ear of corn,
Hoping to spark the pull of Demeter’s hearth.

He examines, picks nonchalantly, turning over again in his hand,
Struggling to remember just where to begin.
Finally, pulling back one husks, slowly, delicately,
Reluctant to uncover the bounty of home.

He gazes off, figments of war still all about him,
Pulls a single strand of corn silk, watching
As it flutters from his finger tips.

As the first husk falls to the ground, he looks up,
Gives her that smile, the one he wore marching off.
Both now realizing everything has changed,
Yet the rhythm of life constant remains.

It's a pic of my Grand Parents on their wedding day. He was just home from WW1 and they were in a harvested corn field. They are sitting behind one of those bundles of stalks and he has an ear of corn in his hand.....

1. Very nice!
The war becomes a distant memory and home is here and now.

2. How beautiful this is!
I had to read it twice to really get into the rhythm of it....

But then it came home with a bang!

I get the reference to Flanders Field: WWI, of course.......

She's trying to turn him away from the attractions of war, towards hearth and home....

And he is reluctantly yielding!

This is really outstanding.......You are one heck of a poet, I think.....

Congrats, Chris........

7. i read your post contiguously and didn't see the WW1 ref till the end...
the first flush that went through me was that of our civil war, a Mathew Brady Moment if you will; but you've still expressed imo some of the last of American innocence = Good Stuff!!
