Please Wish Me Luck, Lounge Denizens!
I paid for the 32,000 books I bought and tomorrow morning I get up and drive to Minneapolis St. Paul to load them into trucks to be driven to Milwaukee.

Going to spend tomorrow and Saturday packing them in boxes and loading the trucks.

So if you like, please wish me luck on this first step toward owning my own business.

sure you lift properly! I just hurt my back in August by picking up a computer and twisting to put it in my car.

Share our intials (RL) and lots of other things.

In peace,

Lifting objects

Try to avoid lifting objects if at all possible.
If you must lift objects, do not try to lift objects that are awkward or are heavier than 30 pounds.
Before you lift a heavy object, make sure you have firm footing.
To pick up an object that is lower than the level of your waist, keep your back straight and bend at your knees and hips. Do not bend forward at the waist with your knees straight.
Stand with a wide stance close to the object you are trying to pick up, and keep your feet firm on the ground. Tighten your stomach muscles and lift the object using your leg muscles. Straighten your knees in a steady motion. Don't jerk the object up to your body.
Stand completely upright without twisting. Always move your feet forward when lifting an object.
If you are lifting an object from a table, slide it to the edge to the table so that you can hold it close to your body. Bend your knees so that you are close to the object. Use your legs to lift the object and come to a standing position.
Avoid lifting heavy objects above waist level.
Hold packages close to your body with your arms bent. Keep your stomach muscles tight. Take small steps and go slowly. To lower the object, place your feet as you did to lift, tighten stomach muscles and bend your hips and knees.

A hell of an adventure, indeed. I've owned half-a-dozen businesses in my life, almost all successful, and I gotta tell, you, it's a great way to go. It isn't for everyone, but if you can do it, good on you.

And if it doesn't work out this time, do it again. But you won't need me to tell you that, because you've caught the Fever. You'll never have a "job" again, except in an emergency.

Hate to be the one to tell you this, but you're one of Us now.

45. Yes, they are magic indeed
In fantasy and horror fiction, necromancers are often considered evil wizards and are sometimes said to have sold their soul to a demon or the Devil himself – to worship demons and evil gods – or to have been otherwise tainted by their evil practices. However, in some stories, necromancy is not inherently evil but instead simply another branch of magic.

In fiction, Necromancy is often not a form of divination but a discipline of "dark" or "black" magic used to raise the dead as "undead," typically as zombies under the necromancer's control, though the binding of ghosts and spirits is also common. Necromancers often become powerful undead creatures themselves; in modern fantasy fiction, the Dungeons & Dragons-derived term "lich" (originally a word meaning 'corpse') is often applied to such beings. Necromancers are, in rare cases, capable of raising the dead or restoring vitality to the living, though in some cases the life energy involved must be transferred from another living creature.

53. That more or less sounds like the booksellers I've known.
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 09:30 PM by Lautremont
And I've known a few. One was a tragic figure who took his own life; others have quixotically forged ahead but been beaten by the trade. It's a tough one, because at times it seems that no one wants to buy books, to read, to learn anything or take any culture. But they're out there, so don't despair.

And the guy who killed himself didn't do it because he was a bookseller. It's not that bleak! It's a great and noble profession.

74. I'm so envious - in a good way.
Keep us up to date so I can vicariously own a bookstore too!

82. RL, best of luck on your new venture!
:hi: :loveya: I know you're excited! The move will go well today, and you'll make a great proprietor. :D I have a friend who is a used-bookstore junkie, as are her father and husband. I wish they lived closer to you, 'cause they'd probably clean you out of your stock!!!

You MUST come visit too.
