Dog the Bounty Hunter Arrested! Pending extradition... ** PICS **
I posted this to LBN already.... here are the pics from his arrest...

http://www.swsnews.com/fullstory.php?iid=4767

MSNBC has learned that U.S. officials have arrested TV reality star Duane "Dog" Chapman and two family members for extradition to Mexico.

Chapman's wife told MSNBC's Rita Cosby that heavily armed U.S. marshals arrived at the family's house today and took away Chapman, his brother, Tim, and son, Leland.

Cosby said she was told that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

13. I love it that they try and turn people around in the end. They only
have to touch one person once in a while to make the world a better place.

At least it isn't as disgusting as poor families being given a house, while your whole country ignores health care "issues" and poverty "issues".

18. soooooo...
it's because he likes bush that everyone hates him?

the man captured a SERIAL RAPIST (in mexico, where apparently bounty hunting is illegal, which is why he is being extradited) and all the comments i see are "good riddance"... from the shows i've seen he seems to be a lot more concerned with humanity than most police figures i've seen or encountered.

i guess i see less black and white than you all?

to me this seems a bit like claiming to be pro-choice, but then cheering when a doctor who performs abortions is arrested simply because he supports bush.

isn't there a point at which what is good for this country is more important than what's bad for bush?

???

Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 05:20 PM by Horse with no Name
it's never quite as simple as simple minds want to make it.
It's like this...different countries have different laws. We expect foreign citizens to abide the law here...don't they deserve the same courtesy in their country?
People that don't respect those laws (even when chasing the bad guy) become lawbreakers themselves.
Americans do NOT have carte blanche to run through other people's countries at whim ignoring their laws all the while trying to insert our laws (see Natalie Holloway).

Just for kicks...you might try reading up on extradition.

29. well, like i said...
i don't view the world in black in white.

it's ok for mega corporations to set up offshore tax evasion schemes because it's "legal"? (leaving poor schmucks like us to finance the war on terror)?

if child pornography was legal in, say, thailand would you think that is ok?

prostitution is "right" in nevada, but "wrong" in illinois because of the laws?

it's ok to smoke a joint in amsterdam but not in texas?

warrantless wiretapping, if the congress passes it, will be ok because it is now lawful?

bush has passed, or is trying to pass, alot of laws that people on DU disagree with. are you saying that we should accept these "carte blanche"?

i guess i just don't accept that arguement...

---

and though my post count is low i've been on DU for quite a while and i doubt a few snide comments are going to discourage me from coming back :)

35. You're setting up false arguments.
The question isn't whether anyone here believes a law is "right" or "wrong", it's whether a bounty hunter who chases criminals should be allowed to break the law in his attempts to capture them. I don't support child pornography, but that doesn't give me the right to go to Thailand and kidnap pornographers and I do support legalized prostitution but that doesn't give me the right to set up a brothel in Illinois. We at DU try to change the culture that brings about poor laws in our country and we work to elect those who would legislate in that vein, but we don't usually support vigilantism (although if you look hard enough, I'm sure you can pull out an example).

That said, we have no right to disregard the laws of a sovereign nation such as Mexico or Thailand. If they enact laws, we should either abide by them when there, not go there in the first place, or - if the laws are extremely onerous - sanction them with by various degrees ranging up to war if necessary. Ignoring their laws is not an option, just as it is not an option for the citizens of another country to come here and flaunt our laws - whether they agree with them or no.

Also, welcome to DU. :hi:

39. i can accept that...
i see it is possible to make a point without being rude ;) and thanks for the welcome!

i guess that what was originally bothering me is that most people in this thread do not seem to be judging "dog" on the fact that he broke a law in mexico, but because he supports bush.

it seems that you would be hard pressed to find someone on here condemming palast for breaking the law while researching a story that could be damaging to bush... so it seems like people are using that as an excuse to hate/bash "dog".

i hate bush as much as the next man, but should i now hate my mother-in-law and father-in-law because they are bush supporters?

i just think that there are more important ways to judge a person, and those often probably do not match up with how a law tells you to judge them. or even what political side of the fence they sit on.

41. This is a very partisan board - as it should be.
Most of the people here have very strong feelings when it comes to repubs, especially bush*, because of the damage they've done to this country in such a short time. Of course, when a large group of people who share a common dislike gather, they will often become susceptible to trying to outdo each other in their comments, which I think is happening in this thread to an extent. If you go to any other forum on the internet you'll likely find the exact same thing occurring; it's just human nature.

Personally, I didn't know who Dog, the bounty hunter was till I read this thread. It just caught my interest by being such a unique title. Now that I do know what he and his show are about, I do have to say that I'm a little disgusted that such a show would be put on the air, and I'm a lot saddened that so many people would want to watch something like this. It's the equivalent of Jerry Springer or any of those other reality shows that revel in the misery of other human beings. I just don't understand why someone would want to purposely expose themselves to anger, hatred, violence and ignorance. Can someone tell me what is entertaining about watching other people's misery?

23. Not good. I know an ex-cop who "extradited" someone from...
Mexico, and that got him out of the bounty-hunting business.

Cost a bundle to the Federales who nabbed him while still in Mexico and while they eventually let him go, when they were sure he was out of money, they kept the bailjumper who they could milk for the rest of his life.

A wasted, and very scary, trip.

Dog in deep dogshit now.

Duane 'The Dog' Chapman arrested by feds
Kidnapping charges date back to bounty hunter's capture of Luster three years ago
The Associated Press
Originally published September 14, 2006, 4:30 PM EDT
HONOLULU // TV reality star Duane "Dog" Chapman was arrested early this morning in Hawaii, his publicist, Mona Wood, confirmed. Wood said she could provide no details. MSNBC reports said U.S. Marshals arrested Chapman and two family members -- Leland and Tim Chapman -- on kidnapping charges.

The news channel said Mexico issued a warrant for Chapman's arrest for his alleged kidnapping of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster three years ago.

Chapman's capture of Luster -- a serial rapist -- in Mexico catapulted the bounty hunter to fame and led to the reality series on the A&E channel.

Wood says this is obviously a very upsetting time for the Chapman family. She says Chapman is a true modern-day hero.

"He arrests the bad guys -- and he is definitely not one of them," she said, adding he would be vindicated.
