"My" first "film" now streaming on YouTube
A couple years ago, an Australian guy named Larry Larstead emailed me asking if he could adapt my "Asshole Theory of Governance" as a short film. I said, if you think you can make a movie out of that, be my guest. He turned it into a six-minute digital film called "Theories of Government #9." That film, and a lot of Larstead's other short films, are now finally available on the web through the magic of YouTube. Here's Larstead's website:

$2 Films

His newest one is called "Peak Oil," and though I haven't seen it yet I imagine it will be of interest to some of you. If you want to go directly to "Theories of Government #9," here's the direct link.

Note that the film begins with "snow" and static, and the little blips of interruption are actually an aesthetic effect and not the result of the mysterious "buffering" process. At least some of them will be.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

3. That Was Truly Inspired
Both you and the film maker deserve real international awards! Preferably with money attached.

4. YAY!
I rather enjoyed that! :) I love what he did with your writing. The actors in the skits were ab-fab, I adore the shop worker's silly cynical behavior (plus he was a cutie Aussie!)

5. "Go pack the van!"
K&R. Reminds me of the useful "asshole" knowledge acquired in the old EST seminar.

Everyone is doomed to be an asshole, the only hope is to learn to "get off it." Something like that.

10. I love the smarmy cameraman.
The zinger at the end was the filmmaker's idea but I think it is absolutely perfect.

What the hell is EST, anyway? I always wondered.

12. It was unexpected and funny. I loved it too.
EST? Damned if I know. A group of friends from high school and some others of us all took part in the late seventies. I had a blast, and I learned how to look a bit deeper into things. I was very young.

Looking back on it, it very much reminds me of very intensive theater training.

Of the five friends out of seven who took part and I still maintain contact with, we almost never talk about it anymore. It's odd, because I don't even THINK about it anymore, haven't in decades, and I suddenly thought of it halfway into the short film.

EST was very controversial, but I never experienced any of that. However, I do remember in one seminar turning to one of my friends and saying "This is starting to remind me of Nazi Germany, all of us in glorious agreement with the leader" His eyes widened and said "I KNOOOOWWW..."

Well that was funny, but what's going on in America today...not so much. I do understand first-hand how Bushbots become so, just having seen how group dynamics meld when trust is turned over.

I forgot to say, CONGRATULATIONS, Plaid!!

And lastly, I didn't read through all this EST listing in Wikipedia, but if you want you can check it out:

7. No! Up with Assholes! Great Libertarian rant!

Which do you want? A bunch of little assholes buzzing around you that you can swat away or one big asshole that puts you on a military ship, tries you by secret tribunal and has you executed for crimes you never hear described?

Option one is the preferred option for anyone with an intact ego. The only people who go for option two are those who had wierd childhoods in which they were taught to repress or deny their emotions (esp the negative ones) or their normal human complexities. The first world would drive them crazy. The second world would be much more normal to them since the dictator would be just like the abusive parent they worked so hard to placate. It would be easier, too, since they could spend all their time trying to keep just one person happy and could even kid themselves into believing that the simgle, all powerful asshole really loves them.

16. $2 Films
The "snow" and static was a stupid idea. You must know that You tube films have no set audio levels. I would adjust it the next time you need to use the whole spectrum of sound for effects. Start it off low and give the people a chance to adjust the sound their selfs.
