150 Birds, 32 Dogs Seized From Home

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Polk County authorities said more than 150 roosters and hens and 32 dogs have been seized from a home near Lakeland.

Deputies believe the animals could have been bred and trained for fighting. Some of the dogs were found chained.

The homeowner, 55-year-old Lewis Barrentine, has been charged with animal-cruelty and drug-possession.

Detectives said they also found cockfighting literature and items used to train roosters to fight.

The animals are in custody of the Sheriff's Office.
