24. Thanks for starting this thread. I dig old pictures, too.
Here's one of my home town

I have tried for years to figure out if I actually remember the arches, or if I just remember seeing pictures of them.

At the left in the photo is the Golden Bear Cafe. Later just the Golden Bear, one of the greatest nightclubs ever. They tore it down in the early 80s to make way for ugly effing mega god damned bring-in-more-cash-because-we-can hotels. BASTARDS!

But I digress . . .

He was a veteran of the war of 1812 and a witness to the bombardment of Baltimore.
His son was a veteran of the civil war. This photo was taken in the 1850s and is I believe a
tintype of some sort. Literally falling apart.

I've been keeping genealogy records for my large family for about twenty years now. They send me old photos and documents from all over. I've been scanning them for years and then returning them to the family members who sent them. I have a couple photos that are even older than this one. I've also got a land grand signed by James Madison for service rendered during the war of 1812.

62. I have a lot of family photos saved.

My parents on their wedding day, with my dad's parents.

My dad's dad, on his Kentucky farm.

My great grandmother (the mother of my paternal grandmother, who died shortly after I was born but whom I look exactly like.)

My Aunt Edna, the sister of my paternal grandfather. She was engaged to a man who died in WWII. She never dated another man the rest of her life. She lived to be 95.

My grandparents holding my infant mother.

My mom at age ten.

And my mother at age twenty-two.

My maternal grandfather's father.

My grandfather during WWII. My grandfather is in the front, next to the guy with the boxing gloves, wearing the uniform and hat.

And one of my very favorites. My parents on their wedding day. They were married at my maternal grandparent's house. This was taken by the back door.

When I look at family photos, I remember where I came from and how I became who I am. All of these people were old time Democrats- Kennedy Democrats, who were tired of the racism that was happening. They were optimistic people who believed everyone deserved the same opportunities in life and rejected the agenda of pessimism and hatred.

66. OK, lemme see if I can get this to work...

This is my father's home island, Filicudi. Just north of Sicily. The man is actually my cousin, much older then me.

Same view, just a few weeks ago. Different relative, obviously!

Dad (lower right) with two of his brothers, his sister and my grandmother. This was from the time grandma was bringing her children to the USA, to join her husband and oldest son, who were here already to prepare. That's the way most immigrant families did it, I am told.

My dad and his classmates, here in the US. I have no idea what those armbands are about. Dig those socks!!

Dad, returning to his home island for the first time, in 1979.

What do Italians do when they go home? They eat, of course!! He was so happy on that trip.

This is actually the house where my father was born. No running water, no electricity. Just a roof, and some walls. No doctor either, I'm sure.

My favorite photo of mom and dad.

68. My father grew up without electricity, running water or doctors- in KY.
His last surviving parent, my grandfather, died in 1986. Up until that point, I remember using the outhouse and pumping water from the well out front. When they moved into the farm house in 1949, there was no kitchen or second bedroom. My dad slept in the living room. They cooked and kept warm with a pot-bellied stove- which I still remember seeing there. In 1952, they added the kitchen and a new bedroom. My dad shared one bed with his two bothers. My grandfather was a sharecropper, so the land nor the house belonged to him.
