What year did you purchase your first CD player?
1986 for me. It was actually a very nice portable stereo -- it was huge, weighed about 10 pounds, and had great sound. I paid about $200 for it. It had the CD player, cassette deck, and all the other bells and whistles.

1. Early 1990.

It was a portable jobbie that I plugged into my stereo. Cost $200 at Radio Shack. Got about five good years out of it.

2. 85 or early 86... purchased a handful of CDs beforehand

...so's I had something to play once I got it. When XTC's English Settlement came out on CD, that was what justified me making the big purchase.

Back when I had my big, fat banking job. Sometimes I wish I hadn't been talked out of quitting that job to work in the family business.

I might be a wealthy republican by now, instead of a broke-ass "entrepreneur."

5. I don't remember the year, but I don't think they had multi-disc
players yet. It was a Christmas gift, and my boyfriend-st-the-time didn't shell out the extra bucks for the remote because it didn't seem to make sense. (Sounds like ancient times: we didn't have remotes for all our electronics as yet.)

6. 1987.
Got a Fisher portable CD player for HS graduation. It broke almost immediately. Sent it off to the company for repairs, and never heard from them again. Then bought a Pioneer. Still have it, don't use it though.

7. Circa 2000
I remember tooling around the local hot-spots with an 8-Track and a cassette deck the next year with no place to hide them in a Triumph TR-6.

Come to think of it, I remember trying to hide my date from my girlfriend in the same car too....

It didn't work out too well.

8. 1988
Got a kenwood single player for about 175. I had to take a couple screws out of the bottom before using it. I had one CD, and I put it in upside down and wondered why I was getting no sound.
