A FEW THOUGHTS FOR MY PARTNER'S MOM
my partner's mom found yesterday she has breast cancer. She's 87, very active and generally in good health

at the moment she's bouncing between being freaked out and hiding her head in the sand. My partner is dealing with the news a bit better.

Mom had a lump removed about 15 years ago.

on the plus side - the type of breast cancer she has is Lobular Carcinoma In Situ (LCIS) (Technically, lobular carcinoma in situ is not even a cancer. Sometimes called lobular neoplasia , it is classified as pre-cancerous growth that begins in the milk-producing glands. )

Her regular doctor is talking mastectomy. Mom doesn't want that, she would prefer another lumpectomy - but the GP says they don't do "repetitive" lumpectomies... From our internet searches we found no reason why another lumpectomy can't be done. Yes, there is a chance the cancer will return (again) but according to the articles it's a slight chance of it returning in 15-25 years...

Mom hasn't seen an oncologist yet, and my partner couldn't get much information from her yesterday. She's going to give her Mom a couple of days to settle down and then will try to get more specifics, contact doctor/oncologist etc.

7. "...it's a slight chance of it returning in 15-25 years..."
Yeah, she wouldn't want it coming back when she's 110.

8. exactly...
My partner talked to her mom yesterday, sent her a bunch of info via e-mail.

We're waiting for her regular Doc to get back to her regarding appointment with onocologist, and then we'll see what her options will be.
