2. You should have an option to anti-alias your text...
If under Windows, Look under Display options. If under other operating systems, it should already be enabled. Make sure you have the RIGHT setting for the monitor, there is a special setting for LCDs.

3. Thanks guys. I just system restored to a later date. Sometimes, its
easier not to know why and just keep moving forward. I think I got a little too ambitious with my virus/spyware programs and messed stuff up. I am a true idiot.
