Best role of all time?
Just to get you started.....

Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice?
Frances McDormand - Fargo?
Kathy Bates - Misery?
Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest?
Robert Duvall in Lonesome Dove?
Al Pacino in Scarface? (yeah, I know the other one...)

1. Meryl Streep, no question.
Next is Donald Sutherland in Ordinary People. Every poser in Hollywood can play a creepy or screaming or scenery chewing bad guy. It takes a butt load of talent to play a supposedly bland nice guy, and make him complicated.

6. Chris Reeve...you know who...look below...:)

There has never been a perfect casting call for a long time....Eastwood in his cowboy flick is another great casting call...both actors fit their roles perfectly...:hi:

9. You mean performance, no?
It's not just the role, after all...it's also the actor playing it.

A few I'd nominate:

Kenneth Branagh's Hal in Henry V
Peter O'Toole as TE Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia
Katherine Hepburn as Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion in Winter
James Cagney as Cody Jarrett in White Heat
Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity

10. Edward Norton in Fight Club

Sure, Brad Pitt stands out, but he's supposed to, to lead the viewer away from the similarities with Norton. Norton has use understatement so that the viewer is convinced that they can, in fact, be the same person.

meant to replay to original, but typing's hard work.
