Most memorable TV commercial jingle ever (preferably good)
It might also be useful to restrict these to national ad campaigns. It's kind of difficult for something to be Most Memorable if it was only ever heard by say 50,000 people, ya know?

Also, though it's impossible to keep straight all the songs that were hit records somewhere first and only later adapted into jingles from those that were written as jingles, let's try to avoid the former where possible.

Earlier today, some vengeful god decided to visit upon me the Electrolux jingle from the '70s. It was in the style of the '50s, I guess, but regardless was a little slice of catchiness hell. Among those that were insanely catchy but which I at least liked, leading the pack is probably the "Taste Sheraton" number and campaign, also from the '70s. (It was the last time I watched TV without a zapper to kill the commercials, so the last time I caught-- or was caught by-- many.) I'm not exactly sure, but I really think that the "I'd Like To Buy the World A Coke" version came before the "Teach the World to Sing" one, but I don't really feel like looking up New Seekers history at this time. I guess David Naughton's "I'm A Pepper" song and dance was pretty effective; anyway I still remember it after all these years. I'd like to count Edie Adams' "Hey Big Spender," but obviously that wasn't originally written as a jingle. I was still at least five years from puberty, but it caught my attention pretty spectacularly nevertheless.

Whatchagot?

2. Well, in the sense of "memorable" the first one that pops up in my memory
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 10:19 PM by qnr
is "Stronger than dirt!" for Ajax.

Edit: Though I don't really remember if that was a whole jingle, to be honest.

46. Thanks for posting that!
I was beginning to think I was the ONLY person on earth who remembered that commercial. I've described it to people over the years (when discussions come up about TV ads), and people look at me as though I made the whole thing up in my head -- and I was beginning to think so, TOO!

One of my all-time favourites!
