Bad actresses
Not to be sexist (we can have a bad actors thread later), but I'm inspired to bring up bad actresses since "A Kiss Before Dying" is on TV starring Matt Dillon (who's actually not bad) and Sean Young. I remember seeing this movie years ago and I didn't remember how incredibly bad an actress Sean Young is.
No wonder she's disappeared.
But. She has changed her hair style (and color) four times. So far. I think the hair changes are a desperate attempt to cover for her wooden acting.
Any other nominees for "bad actress"?

She "acts" like the same person in every fucking movie. Really, I think she's just dressing up, reading lines...and otherwise being herself.

Though every once in awhile she is inexplicably good.

Sean Young was notoriously hard to work with. I wonder if that has anything to do with why she always comes off so poorly.

38. Meg is dangerously close
to getting the Goldie Hawn "I'm old enough to be a grandmother but I'm still pretending to be a teenager" award.
Both actresses rely way too much on cutesy-pookie little girl antics. Lots of pajama wearing and hair tossing.
That said, I don't think either are truly in the bad actress category. It's just painful to see them both portray themselves as preteens.
It's like watching Tom Cruise in "War of the Worlds" play Dad as a rebellious teenager. Look at my hot car! Look at my hot clothes! Look at how I don't act like a regular Dad! I'm a cool Dad.
And Meg and Goldie always have to be cool. Kids.

102. "Deceived" is good, modern noir
and probably not seen by very many people. It's well done. John Heard, who I like, is intriguing. And the New York yuppie lifestyle isn't just for Hollywood glamour, it's very much integral....like the brownstone and neighbors in "Rosemary's Baby". The suspense really builds and the entire cast holds together.
Still not that crazy about Goldie in the movie...but, you're right, she did depart from her preteen, giggly schtick and she didn't act totally with her ass, as in other movies. Really. Watch her other movies, if you dare, she acts primarily with her round butt. That's where the camera stays. And probably should. It's more developed than her acting.

74. I challenge: "Up the Sandbox"
A film in which she is nothing like her usual persona. Also "All Night Long."

Both are considered art-house pics, and both failed, sending her back to more conventional choices (for her).

However, she was flat-out awful in "The Main Event," and good only her concert scenes in "A Star Is Born."

You can't talk like that about Babs. I think she was priceless in "Funny Girl" and "What's Up, Doc?" But I will go along with Madonna being the pits and most definitely Lana Turner. 60. Why was her accent any better or worse than anyone else's in the film?
It was funny how everyone in Vienna spoke English. Once past that, I didn't much care what accent anyone had. Hulce's and Abraham's was no more nor no less appropriate than hers.

Meg Tilly was supposed to get the part. I wonder if she would have had a better career if she had. Tilly may have been better, but I don't find anything wrong with Berridge's performance. She was supposed to be something of a low-class street kid, and that's what she sounded like.

She was in Hidalgo, too, btw. And a few tv shows, and some small budget stuff. Looked her up on IMDB. She's had about as illustrious a career as Hulce.

I wouldn't call her a good actress, but with people like Tess Harper wandering around, I wouldn't put her near the bottom.

I can't stand her! She is definitely (IMHO) riding along on her looks and the whole smoldering sexuality thing. Not that there aren't a ton of other celebrities doing the same irritating thing, but she really annoys me because of all the constant fawning that is done over her...and for what?? I find her acting performances to be very very underwhelming, and I don't think she's sexy either! Same goes for Angelina Jolie...I just don't see where either one of them are talented or doing anything spectacular in their craft. They're both waaaaay overrated.

56. Sofia Coppola
Her acting was very wooden in Godfather 3, but to give her props, she has turned out to be a talented director.

Why this half-talented singer and so-called actress even gets screen time is beyond me.

68. They've ruined so many movies for me!
Edited on Tue Sep-12-06 06:45 PM by cedahlia
I'm talking about:

Kirsten Dunst
Julia Roberts
Kate Beckinsale
Katie Holmes
Scarlett Johansson
Angelina Jolie
Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Lopez

I'm sure there's other blaaah, highly overrated actresses out there that get on my nerves, too...I just can't remember them all right now! :-)

And yes, there certainly are plenty of boring, overrated male actors out there who could fill their own thread, too! Josh Hartnett is a good start for that list...ugh.

69. Penelope Ann Miller only has a career because she is this...
superWASPY looking woman who is willing to take her top off. Absolutely wretched.

Also, Lee Remick in "Anatomy of a Murder" Possibly the most wooden performance I have ever seen.

77. Jennifer Aniston. Wooden, no timing, so girl-next-door look she bores
to death.

And she looked better pre-plastic surgery (see Office Space).

78. I always thought Joan Cusack was pretty grating. Even though she won
an Oscar for "In and Out" which she was passable in, but everything else I've seen her in I thought her high-strung histrionics were pretty amateurish.

96. Wait a minute. Her "Debbie" from Adams Family II
totally redeems her.
There are some actors/actresses that get a pass for one role. And Joan gets that for Debbie, the psychopath who killed because her parents bought her the wrong Barbie. And without Debbie, would we have that wonderful line from Morticia?
Morticia lists an entire litany of evil deeds Debbie has committed.
But the only sin that bothers Morticia?
Pastels.

80. I think Marilyn Monroe deserves mention.
Her on-set behavior was so poor it that she is often accused of being responsible for the death of Clark Gable during the filming of The Misfits. In Some Like It Hot she required 59 takes to properly say, "where's the bourbon?" and some think that Billy Wilder finally just had that line dubbed in.

That said, when she got it right, she got it perfect, and nobody admitted that more readily than Billy Wilder.

98. OK, I'll give you that one.
Casino was way better than Kundun (bleh!) and Gangs of New York (ugh!), that's for sure. It's by no means one of my favourite Scorsese movies, though. I prefer his more atypical films (he's a genius, but a lot of his movies seem like one another after a while); I'd say my top three are After Hours, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, and King of Comedy. But I digress...

99. She's also completely insane.
I dis a movie with her in 1996. I don't want to make fun of her, because she's clearly bipolar, if not full-on manic, but, boy, is she nuts! I think her disappearance has more to do with her being basically unmanageable then with her being a poor actor; I somehow suspect precious few people have been booted out of Hollywood for being lousy actors.
