I'm getting ready to fire a client
As in quit accepting work from them. You know the type. The ones that only send you the screwed jobs they don't want to do or the ones that are three months behind schedule. This time it's both (screwed up and three months behind) and their idiot manager keeps calling me twice a day asking when I'll be done and why it's taking so long. I got it last Tuesday and it's a job that would normally take three and a half to four weeks to complete under ideal circumstances.

They're gonna be so screwed if I drop the project and I really hate to do it but they've really got me annoyed right now.

We have a client we're thinking of ditching now for similar reasons.

If you don't need the work or any other work from them in the future, I'd lay it out for them. Lay out your process. Say "Look, I'll have something for you to look at in 2 weeks. These daily calls asking about my progress are doing nothing but slowing me down and annoying me. You can either wait till X date at which point we'll talk, or you can find someone else to do the work."

Maybe they'll get the message. Either way you win.

2. Believe it or not....
...this is coming from idiots in the same trade that know better. They dropped the ball, they screwed up and I think they're just looking for different reasons and different excuses to give to their client like, "the guy we sub-ed the work out to is taking too long" is my guess. The main thing I'm concerned about is how bad it's going to affect their client, an Innocent bystander in this mess. It could cost them punitive damages in the thousands per day if the project gets delayed any further.

Oh yeah, did a couple of jobs for these people already and I wish they'd pay their bills as fast as they demand their work completed. On one good note they've never bitched about the price, just slow to pay.

Sounds to me like good riddance to bad rubbish.....

Perhaps you could go around them to their client, and offer to do the work directly?

Or is that unethical? I honestly don't know........:shrug:

My client has to certify the work. I can't certify anything as I'm not licensed in the trade. I can be a sub-contractor but cannot do the work on my own. I'm going to try scaring the crap out of them first by saying I'm stopping the work right now and if they promise to just shut up and leave me alone for the next three weeks I'll finish the job which will work out best for everyone but it will be the last one I accept from them.
