8. the only sure way to avoid it is to stay single
nothing about divorce didn't suck, but it was better than the last years of the "marriage"

3. So you'll be smart enough not to rush into another marriage
Considering how bad you were at the previous one. ;-)

7. might as well spend it on the wedding
it'll save you having to divvy it up for the lawyers later.

9. My Divorce was simple
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 11:57 PM by benny05
but the talks to ensure state to state negotiations were not.

My former spouse and I shared costs in the long run. We were and still OK about it. I waited nearly 6 years before filing for various reasons...mainly to help my spouse during some periods of time.

Former spouse and I are still good friends, and when needed for some surgery oversight, I was with him less than a month ago, and my current spouse was 100% behind my being with former spouse because both of us are his friend. I'm not one to burn bridges easily.

10. ours was amicable
and uncontested, save for one disagreement we took to arbitration

BUT, it still cost me plenty, including a painfully large five-digit tax bill in the first year because we had to sell or cash in everything to divvy it up. I had a year in which I didn't have a single paycheck, lost two businesses, sold everything I owned cheap (because we had to sell it quickly) and STILL paid more taxes than Dick Cheney and king george combined.

I wouldn't call us "good" friends, but we at least talk once in awhile now.

11. Sorry to hear that
Mine was simplier

I might add that when my DH lost both of his parents, I was there for both occasions. The family thought it was odd, but the friends of the parents did not.

My former DH is still one of my best buds. Love him.

14. Even without lawyers
Filing Fee for Joint Petition for Dissolution cost $300+ !

Petition was joint under threat (mine) of filing standard divorce that would cost much more.

Not a pleasant experience. :hide: :yoiks: :)
