Do you like horses? Photos from today inside (dialup warning)
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 11:43 PM by bertha katzenengel
Today Mrs. V. and I spent time with some friends' quarter horses:

Sabre, a roan
Kimmy, a bay
Cookie, a chestnut filly (is 4 mos. still a filly?)

I fell in love with these horses.

This is Cookie

and this is Cookie, the silly filly

Mrs. V. is crazy about Cookie

Sabre and Kimmy were very curious (okay, they were looking for horse cookies)

then they got closer

and then I got mobbed

I fell in love with these horses today. I wish my life were different so that I could own a horse or two.

Great pictures!

I like the last one the best.

that's all i'm going to say about that!

tonight it's about these gorgeous creatures -- i don't remember the last time i was this close to some living thing that outweighed me

22. really?
how is that possible?

oh, well. NRN. I don't feel any difference and in the last few days my committment has been nil. but i'm not getting off this road.

i'm going home in December to surprise my BIL by appearing at his 50th BD party. I can't wait for my family to notice, but he's going to have TWO shocks. :7 ("Excuse me, didn't you used to be my youngest sister in law?")

6. They're so big, generally, that they're kind of scary, but I find horses
I know to be kind and smart. Genial with soft noses.

I'm not a competent rider, even after lessons, but I like the horses.

Thanks for posting the great pictures.

7. Our friend kept saying "if they get too close, push them away" --
but I loved it. I just freaking loved it. They smelled so good (yeah, horsey, kinda stinky, but they smelled like LIFE), and I could feel their breath, and their hair, their velvety noses, their whiskers on my face . . .

 What wonderful animals.

9. Great pictures, Bertha!
Yes, a 4 month old is still a filly - and remains so until 5 years of age, then she becomes a mare.

They look like they were having just as much fun as you were. They're obviously well socialized, and well cared for.

I hope you will have your wish come true some day, to own one. A lot of work, but well worth it. :-)

Horses are magnificent animals. I rode for much of my life, and had the priviledge of owning my own for a time. (mine was an Appendix QH, a Thoroughbred/Quarter Horse cross; I rode English - dressage and jumping)

10. They look like very sweet horses

Looks like you guys had a wonderful day.

Guess you better start buying land and building a barn for Cookie. Mrs. V has a serious case of Horsesickness. :)

11. Cookie is adorable
There's nothing like being mobbed and nuzzled. I got a chance to meet a local thoroughbred trainer and her little filly and paddock-mates totally got in my space like that; simultaneously sweet and a little unnerving but beautiful nonetheless. The most majestic of creatures in my book. Glad you got to experience some time with your new friends :hi:

13. looooove horses! thanks for the pictures, bertha.
I used to ride quite a bit - English, some jumping - when I was younger; unfortunately I'm pretty allergic these days, it would take a lot of benadryl for me to build up a decent resistance again.

There is nothing like the smell of barns/stalls with horses around (its a good smell for me, though brings nostalgia/some regret instantly to mind). And not to sound like a perv, but the feeling of swinging your leg up and over, and settling into a saddle, is just divine.

You DO look slimmer, btw. :toast:

See why I want horses? Besides that they're magnificent animals, and I could give them so much love, there is so much to learn! I haven't learned much in a long time.
