Mentally Ill duers.... is mental illness a bitch-goddess?
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 08:09 PM by HEyHEY
I have OCD... Sometimes I wonder if I'd be where I am in my career or even be doing what I do without it. Though I've gone through some terribly dark periods dealing with it, I really do wonder what I'd be like without it.
I ask because I've been taking medication for a while now and sometimes feel I've lost a bit of an edge.
What is your experience?

1. I have dealt with depression for 20 years.
I wonder if my career would have truly taken off and if I would have had as many social problems in the past if I didn't suffer from it. However, I view my life as a story yet to be written. Every day I take steps to make sure it's an interesting tale. And it has been rather interesting thus far. :)

3. Taking medicine for ADD has't made me lose any edge.
Even with the medicine, I do still sometimes get the good part of ADD, which is the periods of hyperconcentration. But the medicine gets it under control enough that I acutally get something done now and again.

4. I've had depression my whole life
the meds keep it under control these days. I lost my lover to bi-polar recently and that really sucked. He gets really mean when he's manic.

5. Mine is similar to yours
I've been a depressive for most of my life. I have no idea what "happy" would be like.

But I'm good at this, it's what I know. Medication has never helped me.... and I couldn't write.

I don't know what to say in your case.... you'll have to decide. Maybe OCD gives you your edge, it can also quickly spiral out of control and wreck your life.

Just be careful.

Khash.

6. Yes it really is. It put a block ( I put a block) on my life for too long.
I went to the doctor's this past February and was prescribed Paxil CR for about 5 months. I went off of it (my doctor took me off of it in a weird way - cold turkey)and I found my own happiness.
