Want to hear HARSH Criticism of "V is for Vendetta" Movie before renting.
I avoided that movie thinking it was a "cutsey" fear mongering movie or just some hyped by us, Dem movie that would leave me feeling worse than I did before I watched it.

so...that said...is there anything REALLY INNOVATIVE about that movie that I should watch it as opposed to escaping into my "dusty" VHS old movies I retreat into when I need sustinance?

IOW'D's: Would watching "V" perk me up and give me energy to continue THE FIGHT? Or, is it just a good view for those who aren't "seasoned DU'ers."

I don't want to be DOWN over this weekend.....and if "V" is DOWN, then I don't want to watch it.

1. Allow me...
"V for Vendetta" is a depressing departure from one of my favorite graphic novels. If you have ever read the graphic novel- if you ever plan to- don't watch the movie. It sucks. Bad.

If you never read the book, then the movie isn't too bad. It has action, it has romance (a little), and a left-leaning political slant. Like a futuristic (and not-so-depressing) 1984, V For Vendetta will make you think about the parts of society you may often ignore in your everyday life.

V for Vendetta isn't, as the box may say, about the government fearing its citizens. V for Vendetta is, at the core, about homophobia. A lot of people may not have gotten that- no matter how obvious it is- but there are things that can be taken away from the movie. If you want feel good, 'V' may not be the movie for you- but the movie is a lot more light hearted than the comic. (And, again I say, a lot worse).

5. I don't think it was as good as the DU hype.
If I hadn't heard how magnificent it was here at DU I might not have expected so much. It wasn't bad.

10. It's about the that the government should fear it's people...
And that the situation in the movie was that the government was promoting fear as way to control...

The original graphic novels were, unique for there time...

However, they would not translate well into the coherent time frame that a movie demands...

Also, I liked the ending of the movie, rather up lifting at the end...

2. V is inspiring and UP! UP! UP! Don't rent it, buy it.
That is just my opinion. I absolutely love this movie and have watched it at least 6 times. I have never read the novel and feel no need to read it since I am not into graphic novels. Somebody could still enjoy watching the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy without having read the book. In that case it would be their loss since LOTR is one of the greatest and most popular and read books of all time. V for Vendetta is a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining and uplifting movie with a good message. Very rarely is any movie the same as the book.

6. I watched it and liked it.
For the life of me right now I can't remember most of it. One of my son's nurses brought it in one night. Every one on the surgical floor seemed to know that he had a dvd player( Henry Ford Hospital's nurses are imho the best of the best) and some nurses would bring him dvd's. I remember enjoying this one and can't remember why. It's been a long 4 months. Kevin, on the other hand, didn't really like it.

9. I should have brought anti-anxiety meds to the theater
The only substantial criticism I have is that breaking a person down by torturing them will not result in a stronger person who fears nothing; it will result in a person with PTSD.
