1. Do you know anything about the case?

3. No.
I don't even know if I'll be called for a civil or criminal case, but there's no way they can select me. My own civil trial is next week and I obviously have to be available. But I already postponed once and accidentally blew it off once, so I had to appear.

Wouldn't it be funny if they tried to select me for my own case?

I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time that happened.

13. I doubt it though...
...because my lawyer is in his office today. Wouldn't he be here for jury selection?

2. OOh, did they tell what the case was yet?
Is it something exciting? Like Martha Stewart and SEC violations?

4. Not yet.
But I'm so stressed out I've been crying on and off all day, so I'm sure they'll send me home anyway. I appear to be a serious nut-case.

5. Have they had anything on TV today besides Jerry Springer and
Oprah? The one time I've been called for jury duty, that's all they played the entire time. The juror room wasn't equipped with computers (that was 1994), but the one tv was monopolized by Jerry Springer and Montel and Oprah... :eyes: I took that time to plan my sister's bridal shower, and I got it all done. I was never called that day, and they let us go at 2:30.

Hope it goes by quickly for you. Just play on DU until you can't play any more. :P

:P At least it's not Fox News.

Try to get some more sleep, too. :hi:

7. They always send me home.
They'll probably send you home too.

Rule number one if you want to serve on a jury: don't look like you think about things too much. Unpredictable jurors scare both the defense and the prosecution.

11. I'd love to serve someday...
...but they HAVE to send me home today. I will pitch a fit if they select me. I will seriously end up in jail. I have to meet with my lawyer tomorrow to prepare to testify in my own civil trial next week. And I'm planning 2 major events at work, and my son's birthday party. There's no way I can take this on. I can hardly afford to be here today. I will totally lose it if they don't disqualify me. I will probably throw up on the spot. They have to let me go.

When they interview me I'm going to say that I'm mentally unfot to serve at this time. I'm preparing to testify about a car accident in which I lost a baby, and I'm under extreme pressure at work, and I cannot take on anything else without actually losing my mind.

How can they select me knowing I need to be available to testify at my own civil trial?

I feel so trapped right now. Seriously, they will just look into my eyes and let me go.

Man, pardon me for wigging out.

;-)

27. Oh my...
Any judge who doesn't send you home is an ass. You shouldn't even be there today.

The one time I actually couldn't do jury duty because I was unexpectedly taking care of a bunch of kids, I called the jury commissioner's office and told them I'd be bringing all the kids with me.

They dismissed me over the phone.

28. awesome.
I told everyone my sitaution, but they said I had to explain during selection. They must be reasonable. But I hate not knowing what they'll do. I feel so out of control.

Thanks for sharing cool jury duty story.

15. He'd give them away...
...to someone with no books, and then compell a person with lots of books to give the books to that person too. Then he;d ask that person to give the books and the shelves away to someone with no home, and compell someone with a large home to take that person in.

I've been called twice. I just never went. It's not like they sent it certified mail, so they have no proof I ever recieved it.

19. I guess NYC is more on top of these things than Morris County.
Anyway, even if I did appear, I'd probably manage to get off any jury.

But you only have to serve one day every 6 years. If they dismiss me today, that counts.

22. Hi. I'm pretty good, but stressed out.
My trial for my car accident starts next week. And I'm planning 2 major special events at work, and 1 at home. I'm glad my trial will be over soon so I don't have to keep all the details fresh, but right now I'm kind of re-living everything, so I'm really emotionally unstable.

I just want to spend all my time with my husband and son, but I'm too busy.

How are you?

34. They have computer lounges now?
I had to sit around for three (*#@&$^$%# days on hard wooden chairs with lots of stupid people talking loudly about nothing of any merit and read a book. But I was called to the special court - not the state supreme court, but like the next level down: it was state, not city.
