4. My neighbor barbecued some
and tossed a couple of necks into the alley between our houses...(to give the alley cats a meal? I never did find out) I asked him what the heck they were(!?) after my dog barked at them.
My husband and I had some super barbecued seafood when that guy lived there, Ahi, Mahi-Mahi, mmmm.

5. Y'know, growin' up in Polecat Hollow, I ate a thing or two.
Edited on Thu Sep-07-06 03:17 AM by dicksteele
I ate critters, great and small, that I killed myself;
and I ate things I found dead along the roadside.

And as I went forth into the big wide world, I ate things
more unusual than any ordinary PA roadkill.

I've eaten:
deer,
pig (wild and tame)
squirrel,
muskrat,
bear,
rattlesnake,
turkey (wild and tame)
chicken (wild and tame)
duck (wild and tame)
game hen,
pheasant,
pigeon (wild and tame)
squid,
conch,
lobster,
shrimp,
crab,
clam,
mussel,
scallop,
dog (tame)
possum,
fried insects,
fish and RAW fish of all persuasions,
and two cows I knew by name since they was babies.

But there just ain't no way in hell I'd ever eat
anything that looks like THAT.

Ya gotta draw the line SOMEWHERE, y'know?

8. Tossed necks into the alley?
Geoduck siphons sell for about $30 a pound in asia. That's one expensive meal for the cats!

6. Conch Broth In the Shell
Edited on Thu Sep-07-06 09:52 AM by oneighty
High up on a cliff over looking Sagami bay we sat, my lady friend and I. A hungry dog had joined us. He lay quietly beneath the crude wood table.

Enoshima is a beautiful place to visit. A walkway leads from the mainland to the small island of Enoshima. One must then climb stone and wood pathways to the island's summit. There more wood walkways lead us to where we sat.

Far below us waves crashed up onto on to the rocks sending white foam and salt-water spray high into the air. Among the rocks are what appear to be two large petrified sea turtles waiting forever to return to the sea.

Our meal is served; steaming hot bowls of rice perfect cones of white piled high looking as Fujiyama. The diced Conch is served in the Conch shell. Floating n the rich black broth are are bits of various vegetables. My lady friend delicate with her chopsticks raises her rice bowl to her mouth and in Japanese fashion begins her dinner. She has side dishes of various mystery contents unknown to me.

I use soy sauce on my rice and I sip the delicious Conch broth with a spoon. I find my strong young teeth cannot chew the bits of Conch so I slip them to the dog waiting patient beneath the table. I notice he does not eat it either.

My lady friend is enjoying her meal. I too am enjoying her meal. I love watching her.

Conch can be romantic.

Conch can also be disgusting. I once tried commercial trapping of Conch. Conch like to eat crabs. Horseshoe crabs are among their favorite foods. So horseshoe crab at the time was used for bait. Like a glob from a SCIFI movie the meat of the conch surrounds the helpless crap and slowly consumes it into its expanding stomach thingy.

Yuk.

180.. From 'KAZUKO' and Voyages of the Vicky Mary.
