I'm back and okay
Went to the ER. They couldn't find anything wrong. Did an ekg, blood work, chest x-rays, etc. They don't know what hurt so bad, but my heart seemed fine, they said.

The ER doc called my own doc from the room where I was. Part of the conversation struck me as funny:

ER doc:...bp 110/70....No, I said 110/70...Really? High? Well, what is her baseline?...Oh, than this IS high...(more conversation...)

Comes back to me, sort of thinking aloud..."95/50. Wish I saw more of that."

I have to go Monday for a "scoliosis series" because all they can figure is that I did pull a muscle or turn my back wrong. I told the x-ray guy that I had scoliosis, but when he got the films he said "You have a pretty serious scoliosis. Did you know that?" My regular doc wants me to have a full physical some time next week. They told me that if I had the same feelings again, I should get to the ER as quickly as possible, but they really didn't seem to think it was my heart.

I will say this, when you walk into an ER, and say you're having chest pains, you move to the head of the line BUT FAST!! They had me on a table and hooked up to leads before they asked my name--or insurance status! I was really quite impressed.

Critters
still puzzled, but feeling fine

Thanks, everyone! And Call Me Wesley--Sorry if that other thread was inappropriate. I was just pondering out loud, which I shouldn't do at the keyboard. Sorry!

7. Another kind of funny moment...
I said "Some friends thought it might have been my heart, but it felt more like muscle pain."

Doc, very deadpan, without looking up from the charts..."Well, your heart is a muscle, ya know". Even the ER doc thinks I'm an idiot. :yoiks:

9. My cardiologist's advice...
"If you have chest pain that isn't relieved with nitro, dial 911 and tell them you're having a heart attack; not chest pain." There's nothing like the words "heart attack" to light a fire under people.

11. Be sure to look into panic attacks
You have VERY real physical symptoms triggered by surges in adrenaline, but they are more frightening than anything else.

If the doctor finds nothing else wrong (and I really don't think scoliosis would cause that sensation), please consider that as a possibility. It can be medically treated as well.

Glad you're OK and I hope you have good insurance.
