4. visit the prison.
while A LOT of tourists go there -- if you can open up to it in spite of the hustle and bustle -- it can be quite the life changing experience.

especially if you let the context of todays' politics inform what you are seeing.

the nightlife is fantastic -- great bands -- both irish and contemporary everywhere.

there's and independant film center in the middle of the happening spot downtown -- i forget the name of it.

try to ge tickets to the abbey and gate theatres -- irish theatre is a real national treasure.

the national gallery is good if poorly organzed.

go to the writers museum and the joyce museum.

5. Was just there in April.
I loved the writer's museum, the library at Trinity College (which holds the Book of Kells), the Kilmanham (sp?) gaol, and we took a castle tour to see Malahide Castle, which is totally worth it, especially if the weather is nice.

Have fun!

7. Definitely the Literary Pub Crawl...
if you're into literature, drinking or both (like I am). It's fun as hell. Basically, you go to half a dozen pubs or so, and you have two actors who act out something from the works or life of an Irish writer. The pubs are ones that the writer either hung out at or wrote about. You drink at each one and so do the actors, so their skits get even funnier by the end of the crawl.

8. You really want a full list of everyone who's been to Dublin?
That's gonna take some serious work and research, and I'm not entirely sure what you're planning to do with the data.

9. Yes. And, I need it before noon. It is not your concern what the
information will be used for. It is your concern what the repercussions will be if I do not get it within the previously referenced time frame. Are we clear?

10. Lots of good shopping and deals on gold jewelry.
Also, go to a pub and drink Guinness Stout on tap. That's one of the reasons I traveled to Ireland.

11. Trinity College
for the Book of Kells and the National Museum for the Ardagh Chalice, Tara Brooch and other treasures. There are several archaeological and historic sites not that far from Dublin that you can book daytrips to, like Tara, Newgrange and Knowth (megalithic sites), Glendalough (an early medieval site associated with St. Kevin from the early Christian period) and Powerscourt (a stately home with beautiful gardens). Enjoy!

13. I'm hoping
to go back to Ireland in 3 years. I've been 2 or 3 times with my parents, but my husband never has. We want to wait until our daughter is a bit older and can appreciate it better however. One of the things I've informed him we are doing is Newgrange. I've never been able to get to see it and it's time I did, darn it all.

I've never been anywhere near a structure even half that old. It is very solemn. They turn the lights off when you are inside. :D

16. Actually, in this case, that's not a bad idea.
The food in Ireland is very bad. We spent four days in Dublin and didn't find a single restaurant with edible food. And it didn't matter how much you spent, either. Bland, tasteless, uninspired...blergh. :) We did better at the American chains.

17. There's actually decent Asian restaurants.
Yep, I went to Ireland and I ate Indonesian, Thai, etc. There was another place that had "ass" in the name of it, and they had good pizza.

20. We had fish n chips our first night there
We were recommended to a place called The Hairy Lemon, which supposedly had the best fish and chips. There were NO SPICES on anything. The breading on the fish was totally tasteless. The fish itself was tender and moist but a very delicately flavored fish to begin with, so it just had no flavor. The fries were gross. I was so disappointed!

After Ireland, I decided I won't travel to a foreign country where the food's not supposed to be VERY GOOD.

I am a foodie, so I enjoy going to new places and trying to food. We did have absolutely gorgeous weather, though, which apparently never happens. So I guess I can't complain too much. :D

It was a greasy mess. Soured me on trying any more when I was there.

25. I couldn't believe how much money we spent on awful food
With the Euro being so high, everything was a fortune. After awhile, all we wanted to do was feed ourselves as cheaply as possible, and that's when we figured out that all the food was bad, cheap or expensive.
