Calling Roget: One-word synonym for "extremely busy" ??
I can't think anymore before 10 AM. This doesn't bode well.

11. It's for a job app. I've got to complete the app in addition to sending
my resume, and want to convey the non-stop high-pressure character of a former job w/out negative connotation and in as few characters as possible - given that i'm reducing 150 words to about 25.

13. is that the only thing you want to convey?
or are there other things?

how many characters are you limited to? is this a webform or paper?

14. No, there's plenty else, but I've got everything else condensed.
But although it's packed none of it suggests non-stop action. Everything I describe could all be done at a leisurely pace or at breakneck speed. So I need something else in there.

It's a poorly-converted PDF that I'm using in Word. I'm using text boxes, for chrissakes. :eyes: It's the best I can do. There's space for about 350 characters. 10 is the smallest practical font size.

16. if you are emailing, be careful with text boxes
multiple versions of word are used extensively all over the place.

sometimes the formatting doesn't carry over well.

as far as your particular query, i would say something like "engaging, highly productive environment in which multiple tasks required my direct attention on a consistent basis."

something along those lines.

i know you are pressed for space, but i fear trying to condense too much might stifle the correct meaning you want to convey.

7. Just say "extremely busy"
A quick look at the thesaurus shows no single-word synonyms that don't have negative connotations: overloaded, unavailable, etc.

goto www.dictionary.com. Enter in "extremely busy", click Thesaurus and then search. Got a lot of good responses.

19. That captures it perfectly. In fact that's a main reason I left the job.
I just can't use that word. :) Too negative. Don't thin I didn't consider it, though!

20. Roget's and Roget's II are on Bartleby.com
http://www.bartleby.com/thesauri/

Not terribly helpful, though. Inundated is a better-sounding synonym for swamped offered twice above. You wouldn't want to say overwhelmed on a job application. Harry had some pretty good results, but again, I don't know if you'd want to put any on a job application: http://www.bartleby.com/62/39/H0723900.html
