My grammar beef today: Question marks for sentences that aren't questions.

For example, "I wonder why he did that?"

Or, "I'm not sure?"

Just because someone is puzzled, it doesn't mean that any statement they make about being puzzled is a question.

I'm with you - it's annoying. It's especially annoying when it happens in oral communication, and you can hear the *@*^%$# question mark in the speaker's voice. Young college age women are especially notorious for speaking that way.

You can answer those two questions you offered with: "I don't know - do you wonder why?" and "No, clearly you are not sure."

What if i criticized your carpentry skills? (Is that how to use a question mark?) Did I do it right?
I have been out school for over 20 years And the most writing I do is a grocery list and posting on this board.
I am not trying to be a dick really..
I just see a thread like this about every day.And for one who sucks when it comes to proper grammar.
It gets old seeing people gripe about it

9. And a comma after "Actually", "than" instead of "then",

and a period at the end of the first sentence, and a rewording to eliminate the preposition at the end of the sentence... like this:

Actually (comma) there are more important things to worry about (about which to worry)

then (than) grammar on a (an) internet (Internet) board.

Look, I've never criticized anyone for their English skills, because #1--It gets no one anywhere, and #2--I fuck up more than I might like to admit, and #3--I know damn well that I'll always be deficient compared to any other person in one way or another.

24. I will occasionally use a question mark as in your first example...

the reason is that I'm trying to convey the inflection I might use when actually speaking aloud. Sometimes the "I wonder..." sentence will be a declarative one; other times, I would say it with a questioning inflection.
