Share fond memories of the croc hunter here....
Over 12 years ago, after I had just met my SO the commie.... only he wasn't my SO yet. I went to a party and he was there, I knew from when we had seen each other a few times earlier (many mutual friends) that we were wildly attracted to each other. After I had been at the party for a while I went to find a bathroom.... I walked by a TV/guest room and the commie was in there staring at something on the TV.... the sound was down and he looking amazed at the TV. He looked up and saw he and said "Come here and watch this Australian guy. He's nuts!"
I went into the room, looked at the TV and there was Steve Irwin doing what he did. I had never seen him before.... but he afforded my commie and I our first moment alone/ "pop cultural freak show" moment.

1. I remember when I lived in Germany ...
it was one of the only shows that I was familiar with so it was one of the few that I watched. I liked one episode when he was in Tasmania I believed and he was filming some whales - Steve Irwin was standing on top of a cliff with just him and Terri - and the view of the nature of the outback ! WOW ! I just knew that he was going to jump off the cliff and just swim with the whales. He was just in love with nature - something that many people take for granted. RIP .

2. I recently discovered I do a pretty good imitation of him
My friend has a snake in his back yard that appeared only recently. I took loads of pics (see below) and was imitating Steve Irwin the whole time..."Look at that snake! Aint he a beaut?" and so on. Anyway, because of Steve Irwin, I knew it was a gopher snake and not venomous, but that it would still bite me, so I kept my distance. He was awesome. Good to see a NICE thread about him!

3. I loved watching the parts of the show...
where he was just hanging out with the animals. They just loved him. From the Camels to the Koalas, they just seemed to know that he loved them and he wanted the best for them. Even the snakes in the zoo seemed to love him. He did a lot to educate kids on every kind of animal, not just crocs. I cried when I found out he was gone. The world just seems a litle less exciting today.
