Where did Labor Day come from?
Seriously, does anyone know? I don't. What exactly is it supposed to signify, and why is it a national holiday?

6. It was created by bosses as May Day-lite
None of that international stuff, no focus on the universality of the working class experience, no questioning capitalism and they got to act like the holiday was a favor and not something workers demanded. After all we couldn't have our workers out celebrating labor on the same day that godless commie workers were, it might clue them in that they had more in common than not.

8. One of the saddest things about Labor Day these days
is that those who most deserve a day of rest and recognition, retail workers, are almost all at work today making crappy wages for very hard jobs. And almost no representation.

I salute the nations retail workers today!

9. It used to be the Day All the Babies Were Born...
.. but the hospitals got too full and told all the mothers to stop having sex on New Years Day (that used to called "Here Comes Daddy" day).

10. Now that the serious answers are out of the way, I can say "storks" ---
ok, it's stupid... labor ... children ... storks --- but my mind works that way, I have a "stupid thought" gear.
