Pope's top exorcist says Harry Potter is 'king of darkness'
puhleeze!

http://www.cbc.ca/story/arts/national/2006/09/03/harrypotter-exorcist-pope.html

Pope Benedict XVI's chief exorcist, Rev. Gabriele Amorth, has called fictional wizard-in-training Harry Potter the "king of darkness, the devil."

Amorth made the statement about the star of the best-selling children's series by British author J. K. Rowling during an interview with Vatican Radio during the week.

"Magic is always a turn to the devil," said the Roman Catholic priest, according to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper.

Amorth, who is also the president of the International Association of Exorcists, said the series contains many positive references to "the satanic art" of magic and makes no distinction between black and white magic.

The Harry Potter series has sold more than 300 million copies worldwide and four of the books have been made into films.

3. If magic is /always/ a turn to the devil, then why worry about
differentiating between black and white?

4. So... the Vatican's official position is that evolution is a lie and that
...magic is real?

7. Well, they're rethinking that.
There was a story last week that the Pope is leaning
toward an official endorsemant of 'intelligent design'.

The Vatican's cheif astronomer, something-or-other Coyne quit a few weeks ago. After an Archbishop Schoenbern claimed that Pope Benedict XVI didn't believe in evolution, Coyne had been the Vatican's cheif proponent of trying to align the Vatican with science (as the past few popes, and Ratzinger himself had done in his writings in the 90s). Coyne's resignation came within days of a news story about Benedict XVI being "prepared to embrace" inteligent design. Despite the fact that Ratzinger embraced science as recently as the 90s.

EDIT: To make this make sense..

15. Honestly, I don't think he WILL embrace ID
His own writing seems very anti-creationism, and pro-science, especially with respect to evolutionary theory. I mean unless he was lying when he was writing as a bishop...

8. Oh my word...
if Harry Potter is the King of Darkness...than I am superman...I can't understand the gripes about HP. I believe none of the people who propse this sort of crap, have actually read the books...and if they did and came to a conclusion like this, they are deluded.

27. I think exorcisms are much more so.
But if you've got someone who's got his ego invested in a title like "chief exorcist," he's not exactly gonna reason himself out of a job, is he?
