Hey Loungers. Look at my Hummer!
You didn't think I meant one of those gas guzzling behemoths that many buy to compensate for insecurity complexes, did you? :) No, I meant this hummer.

Back view

Front view

What's for breakfast?

Going in... If you look carefully, you can see that its beak is opening.

Adjusting rudder...This pic came back a little soft, but I like how the capture caught the white in the tail.

Swing around to the other side and off it goes...

I have many more hummingbird pics here: http://maestros.smugmug.com/gallery/1808959 and in my journal: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Maestro/48

3. Yes. Many of the pics did not turn out.
I am using manual mode plus the pics are hand held. I needed to switch to manual mode to bump up the exposure because these guys are fast! I'm just learning now. Did you look at the others from my links?

28. Thanks so much.
But really I am just learning. I need to figure more out about exposure times, f-stops, lens values, etc... But it is fun!

Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 03:49 PM by Roon
We get him at the end of the season every year. He's mean, but we all love him.

8. Outstanding pics!
I tried to get some hummer pics a couple years ago. Stood in one spot - near the feeder - for what seemed like hours waiting for some to come by. I got a few ok pics. Nothing like yours! Great work!

13. Meh...
I go through about 20 pictures of anything before I get one that's worth showing anyone.

Tomorrow I'm going to the Balloon Classic...cross your fingers.

12. Excellent!!!
Those little devils are also known to be a bit rowdy as well. I guess you'd have to be if you had to eat your weight in food every couple of hours, huh?

15. They are a bit rough and tumble.
I have identified three different ones. They tend to chase each other around then one at a time they will come get a drink. I have never seen them come at the same time to drink.

hummingbirds to come around my deck.

You have a real talent; those are beautiful.

21. Thank you for the kind words.
Truth be told, as far as I can tell, it is mostly about the camera, the lens and luck. I certainly can not get into a deep discussion about f-stops, exposure time, photo composition, etc... I seem to have some cooperating hummers. :) :hi:

22. Thanks.
I actually think that my current hummingbirds are nesting in our honeysuckle. It is very thick so I can't quite see inside there and today it is raining so I am can't check. I am going to see if I can find them, but I do not want to disturb them. I want them to consider my yard a safe place. Those pictures that your friends sent are very nice.

And no, it could have never been the Arnoldmobile. In fact, my next car will most probably be a small electric or hybrid. ;)

I tried to get pics of the hummingbirds at my mother and mother-in-law's houses, but they moved too quickly for me.
