Never wear white shoes after Labor day or black at a wedding, can you
think of another fashion rule that only you still follow? My daughter thinks it's cute when I say you don't wear black to a wedding.

1. I wear black at weddings.
The acquaintances I used to have told me I'm "black from the waist down" too. Doubtlessly in reference to the fact I only wear black trousers and surely nothing else... mind you, shortly after that I did start wearing oversized pairs with pleats...

3. "I only wear black trousers and surely nothing else"... Indeed?
And people still keep inviting you back to their funerals?

2. Never wear matching socks.
I religiously follow this rule.

As a side note, I actually did wear black to my marriage. The seafoam green tux looked all wrong for some reason.

7. I've done weddings where the colors were black and white
I remember the first time a bride told me that. I thought, "Well, it's your wedding." Now it's farily common.

Critters
whose colors were silver and royal blue...a beautiful wedding, a shitty marriage

8. I only wear dresses (or skirts) to church
I have colleagues who tell me it's okay to lead worship in dresspants, but I can't bring myself to do it.

9. I can't bring myself to wear shorts to church.
Although many others do. I get a kick out of those who frown at the teenagers wearing midriff tops. I figure, what the heck, at least they're in church!

12. Exactly
Our liturgist today wore a t-shirt with words on it (religious words, but nontheless), and I KNOW I'm going to hear about it. And yes, my answer will be that I'm glad she was in church--and willing to help out!

19. It makes me crazy when people show up to mass in flip flops
and tank tops with their bellies showing. I know, at least they're there, but mass always seemed to be a more respectful thing, and flip flops don't really go.

10. I don't wear black to weddings
And I do wear black to funerals which an amazing number of people don't do. I also don't wear the American flag as a piece of clothing.

14. I was the only woman over 30 in a black dress at my uncle's funeral
All the women older than me were wearing pant suits - even his widow. It was a terribly cold day and they weren't getting any younger. I couldn't figure out why all the young women were wearing black dresses until I realized that was the only color they ever wore!

I camp at the open bar, make three trips through the buffet line, and skip the gift... :)

13. I wore a black dress to my mom's wedding.
Lots of people wear black to weddings. I only own one pair of white shoes and they're martial art shoes, so they never get worn out in public anyway.

16. Nothing wrong with black in weddings, at least in western culture.
And there really never has been anything wrong with black - it's long been the one color that one can wear everywhere, to anything.

I often wore white after Labor Day in Hawaii, and so did a shitload of other people.

17. I wore a black dress to my cousin's wedding.

Neither my mom nor my grandmother (both much more into the fashion-rule thing than I am) had a problem with it, and I was far from the only one in black.

18. It used to be frowned upon because black was strictly for mourning.
If you wore black to a wedding, it was viewed as a comment on the proceedings. According to my mother's old etiquette book, if you wear wearing black because you were in mourning, you didn't belong at a wedding anyways!

20. I asked them about the funeral association
when we were out shopping for outfits (I'm not into fashion or fashion etiquette, so I was clueless).

They both told me that it didn't matter, and apparently for this occasion, they were right. I was one of many in black there. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. :hi:

21. Black at a wedding is perfectly fine.
However, when all three of my sisters-in-law bought black dresses for my MIL's wedding they drew straws to see which one would return her dress. They were afraid it might make some kind of statement if they were all in black.

I am really, really uncoordinated, so I always coordinate my colors.

23. Went to a wedding yesterday (9/2)
Quite a few people wore black. My hubby wore a black suit: he also wore a light blue button down shirt. The groom wore a black tux with a black shirt. His bow tie was white. I was one of a few people who didn't wear black.

27. No white between Labour Day and Victoria Day (Memorial Day to you)
And I hold-fast on that one.

I tell you what needs to be enforced, and pronto:

Guys wearing hats indoors. Why do people think it's necessary (or fashionable) to wear a ball-cap to a restaurant? If you ever hear of me going on a tri-state killing spree, you can tell the reporters this is what set me off.

28. The hats on guys indoors is a real generation marker
Young folks don't even realize they're wearing a hat indoors; older folks go ballistic at the disrespect. Our local school board has banned all head coverings on the grounds that the hats constituted gang colors. Oddly enough, no one has said a word about the kerchiefs some of the kids wear knotted around their pants legs.

This applies to men only as far as I'm aware.

Always black shoes in the capital.
