So I'm Watching Andre Agassi in what might be his final match
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 01:45 PM by MoseyWalker
I've watched him play his heart out for years and years and years, and love him to death. He is fighting through a bad back, and this US Open is his last tournament.

All I can think of is how beautiful his wife, Steffi Graf, is. She is more beautiful than ever. She is, of course, a tennis legend of her own.

BTW. Andre has given, according to the announcer, or his career, 60 million dollars to charity. I may have heard that wrong, but don't think so. Any one else watching (and hoping to get more shots of Steffi in the crowd)?

Edit: I looked it up, and his foundation has raised 60 millions dollars, many of them his dollars, for kids in Southern Nevada.

"Founded in 1994 by professional tennis player Andre Agassi, the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation (AACF) was created to provide recreational and educational opportunities for at-risk children in Southern Nevada.

Since its inception, the Foundation has supported more than 20 organizations and raised more than $60 million for programs designed to enhance a child's character, self-esteem and career possibilities. Because all of the Foundation's operating costs are underwritten, every penny raised goes directly towards improving the lives of at-risk youth."

2. That was just the most emotional
and gracious exit from the sporting world of any athlete I have ever seen.

(He just lost)

Damn. 21 years playing this game professionally.

4. I bawled like a baby.
He has really become a good human. I am happy for his kids since they get a puppy now but damn, I am really going to miss him.

5. Good for Andre
I don't follow tennis as much any more. But I remember the heyday of Agassi, Becker, Lendel (?) and who could forget the McEnroe! Great guy.

7. If Roddick can somehow summon the energy and heart of
Jimmy Connors (his new coach, right?), he'll be hard to stop.

8. No doubt. Last match, did you see Conners laugh when Roddick
almost got beaned by a smash. It was funny. Here is a link to a live blog from the open. It is pretty cool. http://usopen.blogs.nytimes.com/

9. Great link!
Thanks for that. Now I know what I'll be reading for a while.

I missed the beaning - someone probably has it on YouTube, though.
