GEEK ALERT: Richard Hatch ogled me yesterday... :D
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 06:39 AM by NewWaveChick1981
OK, so this convention I'm attending this weekend is a total geekfest, and I'm right there representing my own geekdom. :P Science fiction & fantasy, horror, gaming, costuming, and comics are the genres represented. There are a decent number of celebrities there, among them:

*Adrienne Barbeau
*Erin Gray
*Johnny Whitaker (who has indeed been partaking of doughnuts and ice cream since Family Affair :P)
*Kevin Sorbo
*Donny Most, Anson Williams, and Erin Moran (yes, MORAN) from Happy Days
*Rip Taylor
*George Takei and Denise Crosby of Star Trek fame
*Butch Patrick
*Traci Lords
*Yvonne Craig
*Lee Merriweather
*Richard Hatch (of Battlestar Galactica)
*other minor actors from various genres

When I visited the Walk of Fame yesterday, I went over to Erin Gray's table and got hubby an autographed photo. I went over to Richard Hatch's table, and I got his autograph and photo. I heard his conversations with other convention-goers who were standing right in front of me, and they were of the usual sort. When I got up to his table, he was all smiles and complimented my hair (which, I have to admit, looked spectacular yesterday :D ), my shirt, and my jewelry (both also looked really good). :woohoo: Got his autograph (again, since I had it on the pic from 20 years ago when I sat in his lap), and as I was thanking him and leaving, he made prolonged eye contact and watched me walk all the way down the aisle. I know this, because I caught him out of the corner of my eye as I walked away, and another fan there caught up with me a minute or so later and said, "Did you know that Richard Hatch just told his agent that you were stunning? I heard him say so!" I walked back by his table just for good measure, and he waved and smiled as I walked by. That was the first time I've been knowingly ogled by a celebrity. :P

Hmmmm.... I think I'll have to visit his table again today.

Edited to add: Forgot to say that Mickey Rooney's there too. :P

1. Well, yeah, that's worth a second visit!
:-)

Richard Hatch (I'm glad I read this post, because I thought of the other Richard Hatch ) was very good looking during the time of "Battlestar Galactica". A big reason why I watched. :-)

I'm glad you had a great time.

I'm just sort of curious as to why Johnny Whittaker and Rip Taylor would be at a Science Fiction convention...

3. Same thing Mickey Rooney is doing there...
:P I forgot to include him in the list. It's basically a TV and movie celebrity Walk of Fame, so I guess they all qualify. Happy Days wasn't exactly science fiction, and neither was Family Affair, but they're there nonetheless. They're just there to make money from autographs and selling photos.

16. Star Trek fans have known unofficially for a while that George is gay,
and nobody had any problems with it. :woohoo: For the most part, the Star Trek world is pretty understanding and accepting (though not always :( ). I met George for the first time in 1981, and he was a real sweetheart, as he still is. He's an excellent role model for anyone.

I just never considered any of their sexualities before. In any case, news like that travels slow in the south.

13. LOL...
 George Perez (the comic artist) was there too. He's a personal friend of hubby's, but hubby couldn't attend. I had not seen George in something like ten years, and I got in line at his table. I was the only woman in a line of about ten guys. He didn't see me right away, but when I was two people away from his table, he made eye contact, and he looked very surprised. I got up to his table, and he said, "I know I know you. I'm terrible with names." I told him my name, and he jumped up and gave me a big hug. (He's a big guy.) I've fine-tuned my personal style since I last saw him, and he just kept going on and on about how he couldn't believe I was 43 now. :P (I can't believe it either, but there you go.)

Out of about 30,000 attendees, I am one of the few women wearing "normal" clothes. Most are in costume, and some are just in t-shirts and jeans.

Mickey Rooney is here either because 1) he needs the money from selling 8 x 10 glossies of himself or 2) he's reprising his role as Fallout Boy on the Simpsons. There are a decent number of TV and movie people there that had nothing to do with the con theme---such as Erin Moran, Anson Williams, and Donny Most from Happy Days and Johnny Whitaker from Family Affair. :P Oh, and Traci Lords and other porn stars and WWF stars.

There were a lot of TV/movie people there (like Mickey Rooney) that aren't necessarily related to the subject matter. They're there as multimedia personalities, mainly there to sell glossies and autographs and promote themselves.

Yep, Richard Hatch from Battlestar Galactica. :9 There can be no other.

67. Makes me wish I'd been in "Battlestar Galactica". After all, when I ogle
you, NewWaveChick...

...no woo-hooing from you, no preening, no celebrating, no nothing...

What if I took you for a ride in my Viper?

71. Okay, we have to wait anyway. There's a fire in the main launch bay.
It's getting hot.

Sheesh! Can you BELIEVE I remember all this "Battlestar Galactica" stuff?
