Howdy y'all! How's your Saturday goin'??
Sports-wise, mine's been pretty good. My Oregon Ducks wiped up the field with the Stanford Cardinal, 48-10!! :bounce:

My Mariners are up 4-1 over The Devil Rays (yeah, I know, the Devil Rays, but hell, I'll take a win over any team!).

Weather has been nice -- not quite as hot as it was supposed to be.

So how about you? How has Saturday been for you?

:hi:

1. My dear SeattleGirl!
So far, my weekend has been good!

We (my husband and I) drove up to see our younger daughter and her family.......

Tomorrow is our grandson's birthday, and the party was today!

He will be four......and he is just so adorable........

We had a very good time........

And now I'm pooped!

Tomorrow and Monday I will be helping out at our local Dem Club tabling...

This Labor Day Weekend sees the annual fair in the town next door, Hermosa Beach.....

We always have a table.........

So that's what my weekend looks like, sweetie.....:loveya:  :loveya:

Phillies blew a lead late again. Shows how weak their closer spot is without Gordon. Their relief pitching is general is not very good. Penn State won their football game. Got some new pajamas at Kohl's. :hi:

Fortunately, it looks like they will be bringing a 5-run or more lead into the 9th - lol.

But it happens, I guess...... New jammies??? Cool! I need some new ones myself, but I can't find any where the leg length goes below my ankle bones. Ugh -- highwaters!

23. Yeah, all the teams in the AL West were very close for the longest
But then the Mariners lost every freakin' game on an 11-game road trip, and until they beat the Angels 2 out of 3 in their last series with them, they had been 0-20 against the AL West. Waaaaaa!

The good news is, I think they have some really good young players, and if the owner's will refrain from selling them off to that pimp Steinbrenner, next year might be a whole lot better!

42. Oh, I forgot
Listened to Thea Gilmore - Harpo's Ghost (one of the year's best,) and Bob Dylan's Modern Times (also deserves its praise. Bob Dylan's bluesy songs like "Rollin' and Tumblin'" are well done, but they sound a bit alike at such long lengths. "Spirit On The Water" and "Beyond The Horizon" are a bit anachronistic. The real gems are "Nettie Moore," "Workingman's Blues #2," "When The Deal Goes Down," and the previously mentioned "Rollin' and Tumblin'". I'm sticking with my A-.)

Heard samples from Persephone's Bees at All Music Guide, and enjoyed most of them. The song I heard before wasn't very likable, but perhaps that will also grow on me.

5. I am off for the long weekend.
The weather is really nice, only 84, falls like fall.

I am outside on my deck watching the dogs play, the kitten almost cat playing with her new toy.

I am about to bbq some briskets for Monday, takes a long time to do it right.

I have a nice cold beer to drink and DU to keep me company.

Everything is OK for me.

some kind of nature program on TV, showing a lion or tiger or something, and one of the kids' kitties is getting all excited and rubbing its butt against the TV? That was the very first episode of South Park I ever saw, and it totally cracked me up!

14. So far, so good.
I slept in while my husband kept the children entertained (of course, this was AFTER I got up semi-early to make coffee and bring cereal, coffee, and juice upstairs to bed for us to have while we watched the morning news).

We ran errands - coffee shop, Home Depot, furniture consignment shop, Target, grocery store - and the kids behaved mostly like human beings.

I got in a good 45 minutes on the elliptical while watching a tape of old B/W game shows.

My husband grilled some fabulous cedar plank salmon for supper. My daughter ate all of her salmon, green beans, peas, AND fruit salad. My son stayed in his seat and remembered to ask for things politely.

The kids are having a bath now and I'm having a glass of wine.

:)

27. You are so right, LIW
When my daughter started going through the "terrible two's", I go sick of hearing myself saying, no, stop, don't, quit it, cut it out, blah blah blah! So negative, so I had to come up with some different ways to handle it. Sometimes I'd try distraction, which often worked. Sometimes I'd hug her and say, "Oh baby, did you have a bad day at the office?" That was one of the best ones, for some reason.

Parenting can be a challenge, for sure, but it can also be one of the coolest things ever!

31. Yes! It's hard to be negative all the time.
I still have to say "no" and "stop" - but I prefer the approach that reminds them to use good manners rather than to stop using bad manners. (Example: "Don't demand things!" versus "How do you ask for something?" or "Stop shouting!" versus "Use a quieter voice.")

33. I agree; sometimes you do have to be negative or use what I
call the "mommy voice" (it works well with the dog, too!), but I started saving that stuff for the worst of it, and tried to use more positive responses to most everything else.

15. Crappy.
Had Ernesto not decided to come up the coast, I would be in CT right now drinking beers and blowing shit up, after a long day that would have started with striper fishing, maybe some swell jumping, definitely some tubing, possibly speargunning and tons of laying on the beach. Instead, I organized my room (which isn't done yet, so it's just as messy as before) in NJ while it rains sidewards.

25. I've siphoned the pool twice in the last two days.
You know it's raining like hell when the pool keeps overflowing. The news was reporting a 100,000+ without electricity in NJ, but so far we still have ours. I hope we don't lose it. If we lose electricity, then we also lose our water because we have a well. It seriously blows when that happens.

40. It was just beautiful in Chicago today...
Edited on Sat Sep-02-06 09:27 PM by greatauntoftriplets
Went for a hair trim in preparation for a wonderful family reunion on Lake Michigan with relatives in Michigan next weekend. Had a great lunch in a sidewalk cafe. Also did cleaning and laundry, despite the fact the elevator in my building is broken and the fix will be done on Wednesday after the long weekend. Sad thing is, this building has lots of senior citizens on the upper floors. I saw one woman with a walker (and someone who looked to be in her early 20s) walking up the stairs. The lady looked quite fragile and I hope she didn't have to go up too high. There also is someone on the top floor who must have dialysis today (and other days through the week, though I miss those because I am at work) and is so weak that he has to be transported via stretcher and ambulance. Sad for lots of people.

It was damn three years -- a couple weeks into the future -- that I visited Andy and termite in Seattle. What a great visit it was....

On edit: Meant to say...I miss your wonderful city. Sorry, got distracted. Ya know, the :loveya:

46. Yes, I think many of them are stuck up there.
I've only lived here a short time and so know most of the older people only by hearsay. Did see one man who made it down today (though being on a cane) and seemed to be doing well.

Happily, we have a new association board president who is really caring about the people here. And so made certain that the repairs will get done ASAP. In fact, I was in on the conversation yesterday between him and the building maintenance guy (an outside company fixes the elevator).

Thanks for the great scene, SG. I am terrified of heights and so hid my face on Andy's shoulder when we went to the Space Needle. Not that I would have traded the experience for anything. What great views! I was fine once we got to the top, but that elevator... :scared:

47. I've had my challenges with height, too.
I finally got to the point where I can go to the outside deck on top of the Stratosphere in Vegas, and it's higher than the Space Needle! But it took me several tries over several visits to be able to do it!

I also have extremely bad astigmatism, which throws off my depth perception. And, though I wear glasses, it is not entirely correctible.
