You had to go ahead and remind me that Roy is gone.

No, don't worry, I don't have to be reminded of that sad fact.

Thanks for that wonderful video. I don't think I have ever heard K. D. sing better. They did that high harmony at the end beautifully.:hi:

What a find! Thanks for that video. I looooove that song. kd is one of my all time favourite singers.

It's amazing how much she's developed her voice since then.

I found a video of her performing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" at Alberta's Centennial on youtube last week; now I can't find it.

It was magnificent.

"Hymns of the 49th Parallel" it's on that, as is a brilliant version of Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You".

Gawd, I love that voice. :-)

15. Yes, brilliant is the word.
Beautifully arranged and sung. KD is a great singer and performer.

I found it searching for "KD Lang" ... I think. After trying every way I could think of. I take it the version you were looking for is different?

TV producers evidently love the song as much as we do. First time I heard it was a few years ago, on an episode of "West Wing". It was the Jeff Buckley version, and they used it the same way, in a montage.

Actually, I probably heard Leonard sing it himself when he first recorded it, but I can't be sure. He's an incredible songwriter.

Here's to KD and Leonard... two of my favorite Canadians!!

Dang.

Glad I got a chance to see it.

It was kd singing at Alberta's centennial, live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra (they had worked with Procul Harum and Lighthouse in the past).

8. she is my all time favourite female vocalist.
I love how she puts emotion and true feeling into her voice. She and Jean Siberry did a duet "Calling All Angels" which is a song done by Train, and it's wonderful.

She sure gets animated on stage from what I've seen (on tv). I've never seen her in person but I would give my eye teeth to get to one of her concerts.

24. Oh wow, thank you!
He seemed so genuine and kind in that interview. I liked just listening to his voice. He kind of sounds like my grandpa did.

I just love him. Every time I hear him or some of those other "old guys" (like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Roger Miller, Merle Haggard, George Jones) it reminds me of when I was a little girl, riding with my dad in his dirty old Chevy Silverado with the old SKOAL cans and Dr. Pepper bottles, smelling like sweat and cow shit and hay bales, and being as happy as I think I've never been since.

I know that sounds rednecky and schlocky, but it's true. :)

25. Aww gee, what a beautiful man he was.
No wonder he was revered by so many in the business. Not just a great, great singer and songwriter, but a kind and gentle person, if that interview is any indication. Someone said he died only about 24 hours later.

And his description of how the Traveling Wilburies got together was a treat... I have often wondered about that.

Have you seen the "Black on White" video?

It was a tribute kind of concert, with Roy backed up by a bunch of great musicians, including Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Tom Waits, KD Lang, Bonnie Raitt and a number of less well known greats as well.

I have seen it on PBS several times and know it's available on Amazon.

Here's one number from it:

The guy in the white jacket playing the slick guitar... can't remember his name, but he was Elvis' lead guitar player. He and Springsteen are pretty cool, trading licks, with Roy orchestrating things.:)

Here's the Amazon link.

That freaking "Pretty Woman" number with the long riff or instrumental section or whatever. OMFG!!! That rocks! Mr. O. was WAY before his time. I think someone called him the "voice of God," well, whoever was working on that song at the time was definitely in tune with the voice of god.

Well it's all right, even if the sun don't shine
Well it's all right, we're going to the end of the line

Thanks again for sharing...I might never have known that two of my favorites were together on this song.

38. Yeah, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Geoff Lynne (of ELO)..
and Roy. Roy talks about how it was they got together on that interview video that auntie posted for us.

When the album came out, they called themselves funny fictional names, and it took people a few days to figure out who they were... it was really funny!! I think it turned out to be another Roy tribute, since he died a short time later.

So, did you see what I was talking about, when Roy starts singing?
