2. If I was allowed to DU at work I wouldn't be angry
I rarely even am able to take the two ten minute breaks that I am supposed to get.

3. I'm pretty sure it is not allowed
it just happens under the radar like the ten minute bathroom break, but that will not help if the queue of your work is piled even longer when you come back.

5. The queue
Sounds suspiciously like call center talk to me...

Here's hoping the queue goes away.

7. although I did briefly work for one
it was just a generic term for a variable pile of tasks and assignments. After all, as an entry-level call center person, I never saw the queue, that was an SEP. I remember it more from my days in the carnival box office, going like a maniac for several hours while looking at an unending line.

9. I see...
Calling lines and piles of work queues is a brit/cannuck thing too.

I get so used to hearing it around work (I'm in workforce management at a call center) that I forget it has other meaning :)

10. Sorry to hear that
I am underpaid, not the manager of my department, but the only one here for over half my work week (Fri-Mon) - so it feels like being captain of a ship of one.

I totally feel ya! Damn the Man!

11. why do so many think they are underpaid?
Should they get $18 an hour for being on DU?

I love working alone. It takes away from all the yakking and squabbling. Work is easier to deal with than people, especially my boss and subordinates.

12. It has little to do with what I do at work
And more to do with the needs of my family. I don't complain too much.

I totally hear ya about wokring alone. Working the Fri-Mon shift gets me away from all the bru-ha-ha of the normal workaday week and gives me time for my real passions :)

Of course, they are all work related.....

15. I work 49 hours a week and take home $394
I do the work of three people. I am dog tired every night, I have no extra money, and some bills don't get paid.

THAT is underpaid.

And that sucks royal A$$!

If you adjust my pay to the 4 people it supports, it comes in about the same (minus the extra 9 hours of work).

Let's here it for republican economics (not just political, but coroporate as well)!

on edit: what do you do DainBram?

24. SYSADMIN for a car dealer. it was a take it or leave it situation

26. That's actually reasonable
I had to drop my comapny's insurance because it was costing me $365/month to cover my family.

And they called that a benefit! My a$$!

We picked up community health coverage through the state (at a significant savings I might add). At least as the SYSADMIN you are the guy monitoring internet traffic, right?

27. The health insurance is just for me.
My ex is seriously disabled and gets Medicare, and my daughter is under NJ Kid Care. Notice again, I lost 4 inches off my girth for $394 a week.

19. DUing at work is probably frowned on...
But...I'm all caught up with everything else and I've gotta do Something to stay awake until it gets busy again, right?

So...DUing is a GOOD thing.

It's a productive thing.

It's company friendly.

Right?

(besides...who'm I to let a little things like 'rules' stop me?)

21. You don't have to convince me
Most of the time I am here becasue they need a body in case something happens on the weekend. It leads to alot of DU and alot of writing, but downtime is as downtime does.

22. Here it's not so much downtime
As it is 'wait time'. It's gonna get busy, I just can't be sure when. Depends when people get off their asses, finish feeding their kids, helping with homework, taking a shower and watching their regularly scheduled teevee shows.

Drives me crazy sometimes.

So....I DU.

:hi:

13. I'm at work
Been here since 7am, won't leave until 7pm. Will miss the 1st hour of the opening game of our college football season. Am freezing because we have one 30 ton AC and four 12 ton AC units going full blast. My hands are so cold it's hard to type. Damn the employee's comfort, we must keep the servers cool! The average temp in here is 62!

14. I got in a fight with a bookcase and the bookcase almost won.
Sure it took place in my house, but it was quite the battle.

I'm rearranging my bedroom so that means I'm gonna have to move all three bookcases.

Ick.

18. Yeah, this is a really stupidly designed one from target.
The top half is secured only through little wooden pins. I was moving it and the single bookcase decided to become two bookcases on me. I was in a very confined spot with no room to move and I was quite concerned about falling onto the cloth mesh bearded dragon cage and breaking the framing. Fortunately, my ninja skills prevailed.

16. I am
But it's better today. It's rainy outside and cold inside but I expected that and I wore jeans, a sweatshirt and a hooded sweatshirt over that.

I know this place. 102 degrees outside, 63 inside. 3 degrees outside, 63 inside.

But...what is this 'damp'? I've heard the word before....
