It's only in the subject line that they cause any kind of problem. Square brackets won't show up in the message body though. (But if the quote function was enabled you could use them to leave secret messages for anyone who decides to use the quote function, but alas, it is not enabled.)

if you buy tubes and use a machine. Tubes are around $1.50 for a box of 100, and there's lotsa different kinds. The machines go anywhere from about $10 to about $40.
