You mean that you got it back wards. The last two orders of classification are genus/species and, since an iPod is a type of mp3 player the scientific classification would be:

mp3player iPod

making the mp3player the genus and the iPod the species of mp3player.

That's what you meant, right?

on edit: related but not on the same path of thought; I love how Apple managed to do to mp3players what Sony did to portable cassette players. Everyone I know calls their mp3player and iPod regardless of the manufacturer. Weird, huh?

7. Obviously you don't read threads before you post.
As to your edit, you are correct - "iPod" has become the generic term for "mp3 player", like "Jello" for "Gelitan" and "Kleenex" for "Facial tissue" and "Walkman" for "Personal cassette player thingamabob".

10. This one but not the previous one
I was just clarifying, my bad.

It is fairly amazing how the first on the scene with a new technology or product line gets to brand-stamp the entire genus isn't it.

11. There are other examples of brand names becoming synonymous
with the type of product. Rizla, for one.

12. Ahhhh you're wild and misspent youth comes to the fore
referencing Rizlas.

There are loads of them hanging round my (non-smoking) parents' house, because apparently they're invaluable for sorting out various common problems which occur with flutes. :eyes:

13. Not just flutes
my clarinet teacher swore by them also. They are good for soaking up spit from underneath a pad.

Saxophone players need king size, I believe. :)
